Band 6

I would like to talk about a book called Animal Farm, which was written by George Orwell. I have read時態錯誤:應為「read」,因為那段時間已經結束 it two years ago in Tbilisi, because my English teacher said us動詞句型錯誤:應為「told us」或「asked us」 to read it for our literature class. The story is about a farm where the animals decides主詞動詞不一致:應為「decide」 to send away the farmer and run the farm by themselves. There are pigs, horses, sheep and dogs in it. The sheep say the same short sentences all the time, and the dogs help the pigs to keep control. I liked this because the animals have different characters, like real people. At the beginning everything is very good基本說法,限制了Lexical Resource的分數, but slowly the pigs become the new leaders and they start to act like the farmer. The horse Boxer works very hard for everybody, and the pigs do not treat him fair形容詞與副詞混用:應為「fairly」 at the end. I almost cried when I read this part. In my opinion it is a very good book because it looks like a simple story for children, but it is really about people who have power and how they can change. It is also short, so it was more easy比較級錯誤:應為「easier」 than I expected. I think it is a story that everybody should read, young people and also adults, because the message is still very important基本說法,限制了Lexical Resource的分數 today. After I finished it, my friends and I had a long discussion in the class, and the teacher was very pleased.

Band 7

I’d like to talk about a book called Animal Farm, which was written by George Orwell. I read it two years ago in Tbilisi, because my English teacher asked us to read it for our literature class. The story is set on a farm where the animals decide to chase out the farmer and run things themselves. There are pigs, horses, sheep and dogs in it. The sheep repeat the same slogans all the time, and the dogs help the pigs to keep control. I liked how each kind of animal has its own personality, just like people we know. At first everything goes well, but gradually the pigs become the new rulers and start behaving like the farmer. Boxer, the horse, works tirelessly for everyone, and the way the pigs treat him at the end名詞片語作主詞,結構掌握得穩 is really upsetting; I almost cried when I read that part. In my opinion, it’s an excellent book because it looks like a simple children’s story, but it’s actually an allegory about power精準的主題詞彙 and how it can change people. It’s also quite short, so it was more easy比較級錯誤:應為「easier」 to finish than I expected. What I liked most清楚的引導語,帶出看法 was that the language is plain, yet the message is serious, and I think everybody should read it, young people and adults alike, because it’s still highly relevant today自然的詞語搭配. After I finished it, my classmates and I had a long discussion in class, and our teacher was clearly pleased that we had noticed so much.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about a book called Animal Farm, by George Orwell. I read it two years ago in Tbilisi, because my English teacher asked us to read it for our literature class. The story is set on a farm where the animals decide to drive out the farmer and run things for themselves. There are pigs, horses, sheep and dogs, and at first everything goes well, but gradually the pigs become the new rulers and start behaving just like the farmer they replaced. The sheep chant the same slogans over and over, while the dogs enforce the pigs’ wishes, and I enjoyed how each kind of animal stands for a different type of person. Boxer, the horse, works tirelessly for everyone, and the way he is treated by the pigs in the end在名詞片語中準確使用被動結構 genuinely upset me; I almost cried. In my opinion, it’s an excellent book, because what looks like a simple children’s story is really an allegory about how power can corrupt精準而道地的主題詞彙. It’s also short and written in plain language, so it was far easier to finish than I expected, yet the message is serious. If I had to pick one thing that stayed with me自然的話語標記,引出個人的反思, it would be how quickly the other animals stopped questioning what they were told. I’d urge everybody to read it, young people and adults alike, because it remains strikingly relevant精準、自然的說法 today. When we finished it, my classmates and I had a lively discussion in class, and our teacher was delighted that we had noticed so much beneath the surface.

  • Band 6的錯誤(「I have read it two years ago」、「said us」、「the animals decides」)在Band 7已經改正(「I read it two years ago」、「asked us」、「the animals decide」),Band 8也維持乾淨。
  • Band 6用的是「very good」和「very important」;Band 7改用「an allegory about power」和「highly relevant today」;Band 8再把它們精煉成「an allegory about how power can corrupt」和「strikingly relevant」。
  • Band 6用簡單的一句話表達看法(「it is a very good book」);Band 7加上「What I liked most」;Band 8則以個人的反思作結:「If I had to pick one thing that stayed with me」。

  1. Why do so many stories for children use animals instead of people?
  2. Do you think reading fiction is a good way to learn about the real world?
  3. Should schools decide which books students have to read?
  4. How have audiobooks and e-books changed the way people read?
  5. Is a story with a message better than a story written only for enjoyment?
