Bu cue card’a nasıl yaklaşmalı

a fable çoğunlukla hayvanların yer aldığı, ders veren kısa bir hikâye It reads like a fable, but the lesson is meant for adults.

Bir dakikalık plan

Bir dakikalık hazırlıkta alabileceğin notlar:

  • what: Animal Farm by George Orwell, read at school in Tbilisi
  • animals: pigs as leaders, Boxer the horse, sheep, dogs
  • why: English teacher asked us to read it for literature class
  • opinion: looks simple, serious message about power, sad but worth reading

Band 6

I would like to talk about a book called Animal Farm, which was written by George Orwell. I have readZaman hatası: “read” olmalı; “two years ago” bitmiş bir zamandır it two years ago in Tbilisi, because my English teacher said usFiil kalıbı hatası: “told us” ya da “asked us” olmalı to read it for our literature class. The story is about a farm where the animals decidesÖzne-yüklem uyumu hatası: “decide” olmalı to send away the farmer and run the farm by themselves. There are pigs, horses, sheep and dogs in it. The sheep say the same short sentences all the time, and the dogs help the pigs to keep control. I liked this because the animals have different characters, like real people. At the beginning everything is very goodBasit ifade; Lexical Resource puanını sınırlıyor, but slowly the pigs become the new leaders and they start to act like the farmer. The horse Boxer works very hard for everybody, and the pigs do not treat him fairSıfat/zarf hatası: “fairly” olmalı at the end. ErDoğal duraksama, önemsiz dolgu sözcüğü, I almost cried when I read this part. In my opinion it is a very good book because it looks like a simple story for children, but it is really about people who have power and how they can change. It is also short, so it was more easyComparative hatası: “easier” olmalı than I expected. You knowDuraksama işareti olarak kullanılan dolgu ifadesi, I think it is a story that everybody should read, young people and also adults, because the message is still very importantBasit ifade; Lexical Resource puanını sınırlıyor today. After I finished it, my friends and I had a long discussion in the class, and the teacher was very pleased.

Band 7

I’d like to talk about a book called Animal Farm, which was written by George Orwell. I read it two years ago in Tbilisi, because my English teacher asked us to read it for our literature class. The story is set on a farm where the animals decide to chase out the farmer and run things themselves. There are pigs, horses, sheep and dogs in it. The sheep repeat the same slogans all the time, and the dogs help the pigs to keep control. I liked how each kind of animal has its own personality, just like people we know. At first everything goes well, but gradually the pigs become the new rulers and start behaving like the farmer. Boxer, the horse, works tirelessly for everyone, and the way the pigs treat him at the endÖzne olarak kullanılan isim öbeği; kontrollü yapı is really upsetting; I almost cried when I read that part. In my opinion, it’s an excellent book because it looks like a simple children’s story, but it’s actually an allegory about powerİsabetli konu kelimeleri and how it can change people. It’s also quite short, so it was more easyComparative hatası: “easier” olmalı to finish than I expected. What I liked mostGörüşü işaretleyen net ifade was that the language is plain, yet the message is serious, and I think everybody should read it, young people and adults alike, because it’s still highly relevant todayDoğal collocation. After I finished it, my classmates and I had a long discussion in class, and our teacher was clearly pleased that we had noticed so much.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about a book called Animal Farm, by George Orwell. I read it two years ago in Tbilisi, because my English teacher asked us to read it for our literature class. The story is set on a farm where the animals decide to drive out the farmer and run things for themselves. There are pigs, horses, sheep and dogs, and at first everything goes well, but gradually the pigs become the new rulers and start behaving just like the farmer they replaced. The sheep chant the same slogans over and over, while the dogs enforce the pigs’ wishes, and I enjoyed how each kind of animal stands for a different type of person. Boxer, the horse, works tirelessly for everyone, and the way he is treated by the pigs in the endİsim öbeği içinde doğru kullanılmış edilgen yapı genuinely upset me; I almost cried. In my opinion, it’s an excellent book, because what looks like a simple children’s story is really an allegory about how power can corruptİsabetli, deyimsel konu kelimeleri. It’s also short and written in plain language, so it was far easier to finish than I expected, yet the message is serious. If I had to pick one thing that stayed with meKişisel bir düşünceyi açan doğal söylem ifadesi, it would be how quickly the other animals stopped questioning what they were told. I’d urge everybody to read it, young people and adults alike, because it remains strikingly relevantİsabetli, doğal ifade today. When we finished it, my classmates and I had a lively discussion in class, and our teacher was delighted that we had noticed so much beneath the surface.

Bandı yükselten ne oldu

  • Band 6’daki hatalar (“I have read it two years ago”, “said us”, “the animals decides”) Band 7’de doğru (“I read it two years ago”, “asked us”, “the animals decide”) ve Band 8’de temiz kalıyor.
  • Band 6 “very good” ve “very important” ifadelerine yaslanıyor; Band 7 “an allegory about power” ve “highly relevant today” kullanıyor; Band 8 bunları “an allegory about how power can corrupt” ve “strikingly relevant” biçimine getiriyor.
  • Band 6 görüşü düz bir cümleyle veriyor (“it is a very good book”); Band 7 “What I liked most” ifadesini ekliyor; Band 8 kişisel bir düşünceyle bitiyor: “If I had to pick one thing that stayed with me”.

  1. Why do so many stories for children use animals instead of people?Çocuklara yönelik birçok hikâye neden insanlar yerine hayvanları kullanıyor?
  2. Do you think reading fiction is a good way to learn about the real world?Sence kurgu okumak gerçek dünya hakkında bilgi edinmenin iyi bir yolu mu?
  3. Should schools decide which books students have to read?Okullar öğrencilerin hangi kitapları okuyacağına karar vermeli mi?
  4. How have audiobooks and e-books changed the way people read?Sesli kitaplar ve e-kitaplar insanların okuma biçimini nasıl değiştirdi?
  5. Is a story with a message better than a story written only for enjoyment?
