Band 6

I would like to talk about a book called Animal Farm, which was written by George Orwell. I have readЧак катасы: убакыт бүткөндүктөн «read» болушу керек it two years ago in Tbilisi, because my English teacher said usЭтиштин түзүлүшүнүн катасы: «told us» же «asked us» болушу керек to read it for our literature class. The story is about a farm where the animals decidesЭэ менен баяндоочтун ыкташуу катасы: «decide» болушу керек to send away the farmer and run the farm by themselves. There are pigs, horses, sheep and dogs in it. The sheep say the same short sentences all the time, and the dogs help the pigs to keep control. I liked this because the animals have different characters, like real people. At the beginning everything is very goodЖөнөкөй сөз айкашы; Lexical Resource боюнча баллды чектейт, but slowly the pigs become the new leaders and they start to act like the farmer. The horse Boxer works very hard for everybody, and the pigs do not treat him fairТактоочтун формасынын катасы: «fairly» болушу керек at the end. I almost cried when I read this part. In my opinion it is a very good book because it looks like a simple story for children, but it is really about people who have power and how they can change. It is also short, so it was more easyСалыштырма даражанын катасы: «easier» болушу керек than I expected. I think it is a story that everybody should read, young people and also adults, because the message is still very importantЖөнөкөй сөз айкашы; Lexical Resource боюнча баллды чектейт today. After I finished it, my friends and I had a long discussion in the class, and the teacher was very pleased.

Band 7

I’d like to talk about a book called Animal Farm, which was written by George Orwell. I read it two years ago in Tbilisi, because my English teacher asked us to read it for our literature class. The story is set on a farm where the animals decide to chase out the farmer and run things themselves. There are pigs, horses, sheep and dogs in it. The sheep repeat the same slogans all the time, and the dogs help the pigs to keep control. I liked how each kind of animal has its own personality, just like people we know. At first everything goes well, but gradually the pigs become the new rulers and start behaving like the farmer. Boxer, the horse, works tirelessly for everyone, and the way the pigs treat him at the endЭэ милдетинде колдонулган зат атооч айкашы; башкарылган түзүлүш is really upsetting; I almost cried when I read that part. What I liked mostПикирди билдирүүгө багыт берген даана сөз айкашы was that the language is plain, yet the message is serious, and I think everybody should read it, young people and adults alike, because it’s still highly relevant todayТабигый сөз айкашы (collocation). After I finished it, my classmates and I had a long discussion in class, and our teacher was clearly pleased that we had noticed so much.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about a book called Animal Farm, by George Orwell. I read it two years ago in Tbilisi, because my English teacher asked us to read it for our literature class. The story is set on a farm where the animals decide to drive out the farmer and run things for themselves. There are pigs, horses, sheep and dogs, and at first everything goes well, but gradually the pigs become the new rulers and start behaving just like the farmer they replaced. The sheep chant the same slogans over and over, while the dogs enforce the pigs’ wishes, and I enjoyed how each kind of animal stands for a different type of person. Boxer, the horse, works tirelessly for everyone, and the way he is treated by the pigs in the endЗат атооч айкашынын ичинде passive түзүлүшү так колдонулган genuinely upset me; I almost cried. In my opinion, it’s an excellent book, because what looks like a simple children’s story is really an allegory about how power can corruptТема боюнча так, идиомалык сөз байлыгы. It’s also short and written in plain language, so it was far easier to finish than I expected, yet the message is serious. If I had to pick one thing that stayed with meЖеке ойго өтүүнү киргизген табигый байланыштыргыч туюнтма, it would be how quickly the other animals stopped questioning what they were told. I’d urge everybody to read it, young people and adults alike, because it remains strikingly relevantТак, табигый туюнтма today. When we finished it, my classmates and I had a lively discussion in class, and our teacher was delighted that we had noticed so much beneath the surface.

  • Band 6’дагы каталар («I have read it two years ago», «said us», «the animals decides») Band 7’де так формаларга («I read it two years ago», «asked us», «the animals decide») айланат жана Band 8’де таза бойдон калат.
  • Band 6 «very good» жана «very important» дегенге таянат; Band 7 «an allegory about power» жана «highly relevant today» колдонот; Band 8 аларды «an allegory about how power can corrupt» жана «strikingly relevant» деп тактайт.
  • Band 6 пикирди жөнөкөй сүйлөм менен берет («it is a very good book»); Band 7 «What I liked most» кошот; Band 8 жеке ой менен аяктайт: «If I had to pick one thing that stayed with me».

  1. Why do so many stories for children use animals instead of people?
  2. Do you think reading fiction is a good way to learn about the real world?
  3. Should schools decide which books students have to read?
  4. How have audiobooks and e-books changed the way people read?
  5. Is a story with a message better than a story written only for enjoyment?
