“I was impressed because we made real things from the first week”라고 말하는 응시자는 “the course was very useful”이라고 말하는 응시자보다 훨씬 설득력 있게 들립니다.

| a steep learning curve | 짧은 기간에 많은 새로운 것을 빠르게 배워야 하는 시기 | The first week was a steep learning curve for all of us. |
| to get the hang of something | 어떤 일을 어떻게 하는지 이해하기 시작하다 | By the third session I had got the hang of the software. |
| thrown in at the deep end | 충분한 준비 없이 어려운 일을 시작하게 된 | We were thrown in at the deep end, and it worked. |
| to pick up a skill | 격식을 갖춘 노력 없이 기술을 배우다 | I picked up the basics faster than I had expected. |
| a real-world project | 교실 밖의 실제 필요에 바탕을 둔 과제 | Our final task was a real-world project for a local business. |
| hugely rewarding | 매우 큰 만족감을 주는 | Seeing my work on display was hugely rewarding. |
| to boost your confidence | 자신에게 더 확신을 갖게 하다 | The course boosted my confidence more than I expected. |

I’d like to talk about a graphic design course that really impressed me. I took it two years ago at a small training centre in Nairobi. It ran for six weeks, and I went three evenings a week after finishing my shift at a shop. I’d never done any design before, so I was rather apprehensive정확한 형용사, “nervous”보다 약간 격식 있음 on the first day. Our teacher, Mr Otieno, showed us how to use the software and how to combine colours and lettering, and he set us a small project almost every week: a logo, a menu and a poster. Every session began with a short demonstration, and then we had about an hour to try the same technique on our own work while he walked around the room and answered questions. My final project was a poster for my aunt’s bakery. I spent many evenings on it, and when it was ready she hung it in the shop window. Band 8
I’d like to talk about a graphic design course I took two years ago at a small training centre in Nairobi, which impressed me far more than I’d expected. It ran for six weeks, and I attended three evenings a week after finishing my shift at a shop. I’d never done any design before, so I was rather apprehensive on the first day. Our teacher, Mr Otieno, showed us how to use the software and how to combine colours and lettering, and he set us a small project nearly every week: a logo, a menu and a poster. Every session began with a short demonstration, and then we had about an hour to try the same technique on our own work while he walked around the room and answered questions. My final project was a poster for my aunt’s bakery. I spent many evenings on it, and when it was ready she hung it in the shop window, and a few customers asked who had designed it, which made her immensely proud. What impressed me most was how hands-on the course was: rather than sitting through lectures, we were thrown in at the deep end대조를 나타내는 분사구 뒤에 관용구가 이어지며 정확하게 쓰임 from the first week. I’d always assumed I simply wasn’t a creative person, but the course showed me that, with enough practice자연스럽고 간결한 조건, I could turn a blank screen into something people actually wanted. Nowadays I design flyers for friends at weekends, and I’m seriously weighing up a career in design, because that course has completely changed the way I picture my future개인적인 변화를 나타내는 정확하고 자연스러운 표현.
- 6점 답변의 시제 실수(“course that I take”, “he give us”, “who make it”)는 7점 답변(“I took it”, “he set us”, “who had designed it”)에서 바로잡히고 8점 답변에서도 계속 정확합니다.
- 6점 답변은 “very practical”과 “make good things”에 의존하고, 7점 답변은 “so hands-on”과 “got stuck in”을 쓰며, 8점 답변은 “thrown in at the deep end”와 “completely changed the way I picture my future”를 더합니다.
- 6점 답변은 “the course changed how I see my future”로 끝맺습니다. 7점 답변은 조건문(“if I kept practising”)으로 이유를 제시하고, 8점 답변은 이를 구체적인 결과(“a blank screen into something people actually wanted”)로 바꿉니다.
- Why do some people prefer to learn a skill in a class rather than on their own?
- Should adults keep taking courses after they start working?
- How has online learning changed the way people choose and take courses?
- What makes a course or a teacher memorable for the students?
- Whose job is it to keep workers' skills up to date, the employer's or the individual's?
