Bu cue card’a nasıl yaklaşmalı

Değerlendiriciler olayların net sırasını, “after a week” ve “in the end” gibi zaman ifadelerini ve “bad” ile “good” yerine duygular için özel kelimeleri dinler.

to hear back from someone birinden cevap almak I still hadn’t heard back from them after a week.
to follow up önceki bir mesaj hakkında birine yeniden ulaşmak I decided to follow up with a shorter message.

a polite reminder yeniden soran nazik bir mesaj I sent a polite reminder through their website.

Bir dakikalık plan

Bir dakikalık hazırlıkta alabileceğin notlar:

  • who, what: email to a music school in Santiago, guitar lessons
  • waiting: January, three weeks, no reply, checked the phone daily
  • next step: website form, social media message, reply in two days
  • feeling: annoyed, then relieved and a bit silly, spam folder

Band 6

I would like to talk about an email I sent to a music school last January and did not get a reply for a long time. I live in Valparaíso, in Chile, and I wanted to learn the guitar, so I wrote to a small school in Santiago to ask about evening lessons. My friend Camila told me the teachers there were good, so I was excited. I writeZaman hatası: “wrote” olmalı about my age, my level and the days when I could go there. After one week nobody answered, and I thought they did not want a new student. Then I used the school’s website and wrote a short message in the contact form, and I also sent a message on their social media page. Two days later the teacher, Mr Rojas, answerZaman hatası: “answered” olmalı me. He said sorry and told me that my first email was in his spam folder, so he did not see it. Now I have lessons every Tuesday after work, and I am practising a song for my mother’s birthday. Band 7

I’d like to talk about an email I sent to a music school last January that went unanswered for weeks. I live in Valparaíso, in Chile, and I wanted to learn the guitar, so I wrote to a small school in Santiago to ask about evening lessons. My friend Camila had told me the teachers there were excellent, so I was really looking forward to it. I explained my age, my level and the days when I could travel there. After a week there was still nothing, and I started to think that they weren’t interested in taking on a beginnerDolaylı düşüncede doğru geçmiş zaman. I waited three weeks, checking my phone every morning, and honestly, I’d almost given upHayal kırıklığını gösteren doğal söylem ifadesi. I felt let downBasit sıfat yerine phrasal ifade and a bit annoyed, but I didn’t want to try another school, because this one was close to my home. Eventually I tried the contact form on their website and sent a message on their social media page as well. Two days later the teacher, Mr Rojas, replied. He apologised and explained that my first email had landed in his spam folderDoğal collocation, which he only noticed by chance. I was hugely relieved, though also a little embarrassingSıfat biçimi hatası: “embarrassed” olmalı because I’d imagined the worst. I now have lessons every Tuesday, I’m even practising a song for my mother’s birthday, and I’ve learned to follow upBiriyle yeniden iletişime geçmek için isabetli phrasal verb in a different way instead of to waitFiil biçimi hatası: “waiting” olmalı and assuming the worst.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about an email I sent to a music school last January and then heard nothing back about for weeks. I live in Valparaíso, in Chile, and I’d decided to learn the guitar, so I wrote to a small school in Santiago to ask about evening lessons, explaining my age, my level and the days when I could travel there. A friend, Camila, had told me the teachers there were excellent, so I was looking forward to it. After a week there was still no answer, and I began to suspect that they couldn’t be bothered with a beginnerDolaylı düşüncede doğru modal ile kurulmuş deyimsel ifade. I waited three weeks, checking my phone every morning, and to be perfectly honest, I’d all but given upSabit bir kalıpla kurulmuş doğal söylem ifadesi. I felt quietly let downİsabetli zarf ve phrasal sıfat, though I didn’t fancy starting again with another school, since this one was close to home. In the end I tried the contact form on their website and messaged their social media page as well. Two days later the teacher, Mr Rojas, replied. He apologised and explained that my first email had ended up in his spam folderDoğal collocation, which he only discovered by chance. I was enormously relieved, if a little sheepish, because I’d jumped to conclusionsÇok çabuk yargılamayı anlatan isabetli deyim about the school. I now have lessons every Tuesday, I’m even rehearsing a song for my mother’s birthday, and the experience taught me to chase things up through another channel rather than sit and assume the worstÇıkarılan dersi taşıyan karşıtlık yapısı.

Bandı yükselten ne oldu

  • Band 6’daki hatalar (“I write about my age”, “Mr Rojas, answer me”) Band 7’de doğru geçmiş zaman biçimlerine (“I wrote”, “replied”) dönüşüyor ve Band 8’de temiz kalıyor.
  • Band 6 “very disappointed” ve “very relieved” ifadelerine yaslanıyor; Band 7 “let down” ve “landed in his spam folder” kullanıyor; Band 8 “quietly let down” ve “jumped to conclusions” ifadelerini ekliyor.
  • Band 6 “if nobody answers, I must send a message in another way” ile kapanıyor; Band 8 ise çıkarılan dersi anlatan bir düşünceyle, yani “chase things up through another channel rather than sit and assume the worst” ifadesiyle kapanıyor.

Bu karttaki yaygın hatalar

  • Bütün konuşmayı mesajın içeriğine ayırıp hikâyenin kalbi olan beklemeye hiç yer vermemek.
  • Üçüncü maddeyi, yani “whether you finally received a reply” kısmını unutup konuşmayı sonuçsuz bırakmak.
  • Son satırı, “how you felt about the experience” kısmını “bad” gibi tek bir kelimeyle cevaplamak.

  1. Why do some people take a very long time to reply to messages?
  2. Is it rude to ignore a message, or has communication simply become too fast?Bir mesajı görmezden gelmek kabalık mı, yoksa iletişim artık fazla mı hızlandı?
  3. Do you prefer writing a message to speaking on the phone, and why?Mesaj yazmayı mı yoksa telefonla konuşmayı mı tercih edersin, neden?
  4. Should companies be expected to answer customers' messages within a fixed time?Şirketlerden müşterilerin mesajlarına belirli bir süre içinde cevap vermeleri beklenmeli mi?
  5. How has instant messaging changed the way families and friends stay in touch?

Üçüncü madde, sonunda cevap alıp almadığını (“whether”) soruyor; yani iki son da kabul edilir.
