Band 7

I’d like to talk about an email I sent to a music school last January that went unanswered for weeks. I live in Valparaíso, in Chile, and I wanted to learn the guitar, so I wrote to a small school in Santiago to ask about evening lessons. My friend Camila had told me the teachers there were excellent, so I was really looking forward to it. I explained my age, my level and the days when I could travel there.

  • Esquecer o terceiro item, “whether you finally received a reply”, e terminar a fala sem um desfecho.
  • Responder à linha final, “how you felt about the experience”, com uma única palavra, como “bad”.

  1. Why do some people take a very long time to reply to messages?
  2. Is it rude to ignore a message, or has communication simply become too fast?É falta de educação ignorar uma mensagem, ou a comunicação simplesmente ficou rápida demais?
  3. Do you prefer writing a message to speaking on the phone, and why?
  4. Should companies be expected to answer customers' messages within a fixed time?É razoável esperar que as empresas respondam às mensagens dos clientes dentro de um prazo fixo?
  5. How has instant messaging changed the way families and friends stay in touch?
