試験官が聞くのは、現在完了形(Present Perfect)の正確な使い方(「has won」「has trained」)、尊敬と努力を表す言葉、そして「she is very good」よりも具体的な理由です。

Band 8

I’d like to describe a sports person I admire, a woman called Tran Mai. She’s a long-distance runner from my city, Da Nang, and although she isn’t a household name abroad, she’s very well known here. She’s won the regional championship several times and has also gone overseas to run for our country. I first heard about her when I was fifteen, because she came to my school to give a talk, where she told us that she trains at five every morning before her work as a teacher.

  • バンド6の動詞のミス(「She win」と「she also go abroad」)は、バンド7では正確になり(「She’s won」)、バンド8でもミスはありません(「has also gone overseas」)。
バンド7は「stronger than before」と「so dedicated」を使い、バンド8は「came back stronger than ever」と「quiet dedication」を加えています。
  • バンド6は一般的な願いで終わります(「I want to be like her」)。バンド8は、個人的な習慣で締めくくっています(「when I face difficulties of my own, I try to remember her」)。

  1. Why do some countries produce more successful athletes than others?
  2. Should top athletes be expected to behave as role models for young people?
  3. How does a sporting success affect the pride of a town or a whole country?
  4. What can ordinary people learn from the way athletes train?
  5. Should school sport focus on winning or on taking part?
