to look up to someone I have always looked up to her.
She is a role model for young runners in my city.
She bounced back from a knee injury and won again.
An injury was a serious setback in her career.
Her dedication shows in every early morning session.
She won against the odds after missing a whole season.
to push yourself to the limit She pushes herself to the limit in every race.
Running that distance takes enormous stamina.
She shook hands with every rival, which showed real sportsmanship.
to make a name for yourself She made a name for herself in regional competitions.

  • who: Tran Mai, long-distance runner from my city, Da Nang
  • achieved: several regional titles, competed abroad for the country
  • how I know: school talk when I was fifteen, local news, her videos
  • why admire: injury, nearly quit, came back; still coaches children

Band 6

I would like to describe a sports person I admire, a woman called Tran Mai. She is a long-distance runner from my city, Da Nang, and she is not famous in the whole world, but many people here know her. She win動詞形式錯誤:應為「has won」 the regional championship several times, and she also go時態錯誤:應為「went」 abroad to run for our country. I first heard about her when I was fifteen, because she came to my school to give a talk. She told us that she trains at five in the morning before her work as a teacher, and everybody in the hall was surprised. After that I, er自然的停頓,填充詞不顯眼, saw her on the local news and I follow時態錯誤:應為「followed」 her videos online. The most important thing for me is what happened after her knee injury. She could not run for many months and she was almost ready to stop, but she didn’t gave up助動詞錯誤:應為「didn’t give up」. She did slow exercises in the pool, and in the end she came back and won again基本詞彙,限制了Lexical Resource的分數. In the last race I watched on television she finished first, and I shouted so loud that my mother came to my room. I admire her because she is very hard-working基本詞彙,限制了Lexical Resource的分數, and she have主詞動詞不一致:應為「has」 a good heart too. You know當作停頓使用的填充詞, now she helps children in a small club at weekends, and she is always smiling. She never complains when she loses, and she always congratulates the winner. I think she shows young people that failure is not the end, and I want to be like her when I have difficulties in my life.

Band 7

I’d like to describe a sports person I admire, a woman called Tran Mai. She’s a long-distance runner from my city, Da Nang, and although she isn’t famous worldwide, many people here know her. She’s won the regional championship several times, and she’s also gone abroad to run for our country. I first heard about her when I was fifteen, because she visited my school to give a talk. She told us that she trains at five in the morning before her work as a teacher, and everybody in the hall was surprised. After that I saw her on the local news and followed her videos online追蹤運動員動態的自然詞語搭配. What I admire most is how she handled her knee injury. She couldn’t run for many months and she was close to giving up altogether介系詞後面的動名詞用法準確, but she did slow exercises in the pool and eventually came back stronger than before自然的比較說法. In the last race I watched on television she finished first, and I shouted so loudly that my mother came into my room. I admire her because she’s so dedicated精準的形容詞 and, what’s more自然地補上一個論點的連接用語, she’s kind person漏掉冠詞:應為「a kind person」. These days she helps children at a local club at weekends, and she’s always smiling. She never complains when she loses, and she always congratulates the winner. I think she shows young people that failing at something isn’t the end of the road以動名詞當主詞,搭配自然的慣用語, and I’d like to be like her when I face difficulties.

Band 8

I’d like to describe a sports person I admire, a woman called Tran Mai. She’s a long-distance runner from my city, Da Nang, and although she isn’t a household name abroad, she’s very well known here. She’s won the regional championship several times and has also gone overseas to run for our country. I first heard about her when I was fifteen, because she came to my school to give a talk, where she told us that she trains at five every morning before her work as a teacher. I’ve kept up with her career自然使用的慣用片語動詞 through the local news and her online videos ever since. What I admire most is how she handled her knee injury. She couldn’t run for months and was close to giving up altogether介系詞後面準確使用動名詞, yet she switched to slow exercises in the pool and eventually came back stronger than ever自然、道地的說法. I admire her not only for the results but for her quiet dedication精準的詞語搭配 and her generosity: these days she gives up her weekends to coach children at a local club用現在式表達習慣,詞序自然, always smiling. She never complains when she loses, and she always congratulates the winner. In the last race I watched on television she finished first, and I shouted so loudly that my mother came into my room. In my view she shows young people that setbacks are a part of the process rather than the end of it, and when I face difficulties of my own, I try to remember her.

  • Band 6的動詞失誤(「She win」、「she also go abroad」)到了Band 7已經正確(「She’s won」),Band 8也維持乾淨(「has also gone overseas」)。
  • Band 6依賴「won again」和「very hard-working」;Band 7用「stronger than before」和「so dedicated」;Band 8加上「came back stronger than ever」和「quiet dedication」。
  • Band 6以一個籠統的心願結尾(「I want to be like her」);Band 8則以一個個人習慣收尾:「when I face difficulties of my own, I try to remember her」。

  1. Why do some countries produce more successful athletes than others?
  2. Should top athletes be expected to behave as role models for young people?
  3. How does a sporting success affect the pride of a town or a whole country?
  4. What can ordinary people learn from the way athletes train?
  5. Should school sport focus on winning or on taking part?
