to look up to someone I have always looked up to her, even as a child.
down to earth 務實、謙虛、不擺架子 For someone so well known, he is wonderfully down to earth.
a wealth of experience She has a wealth of experience, and she shares it generously.
to set an example He sets an example for everyone in our street.
She is remarkably resilient, even after a hard few years.
to keep in touch We kept in touch even after I moved to another city.
to pass on wisdom He likes to pass on wisdom through short, funny stories.
At eighty, she still has a very sharp mind.
to have a soft spot for someone I think she has a soft spot for me because I always listen.
to be grateful for something I am grateful for every conversation we have had.

  • who: Mrs Shrestha, 78, neighbour in Kathmandu, retired teacher
  • how I know her: ground floor of our building, since I was seven
  • together: Saturday walk to the temple garden, milk tea, her stories
  • feeling: grateful, proud; how she coped after losing her husband

Band 6

I would like to talk about Mrs Kamala Shrestha, an elderly neighbour of mine in Kathmandu. She is seventy-eight years old and she live主詞動詞不一致:應為「lives」 on the ground floor of our building. I know her since時態錯誤:應為「I have known her since」 I was seven, when my family moved there. She was a primary school teacher for nearly forty years, and, you know當作停頓使用的填充詞, she still reads a newspaper every single day. Many of her old students still visits主詞動詞不一致:應為「visit」 her, and some of them are now doctors. On Saturday mornings we walk together to a small garden near the temple, and after that we drink milk tea and talk. She tells me stories about her old students and about the city when it was very quiet基本詞彙,限制了Lexical Resource的分數, and she always asks about my plans. Her flat is full of books and plants, and the door is always open for people who want to talk. I admire her because her husband died ten years ago, but she do not助動詞錯誤:應為「did not」 become sad and angry. Instead she joined a women’s group and start時態錯誤:應為「started」 a vegetable garden on the roof. When I am stressed about my exams, er自然的停頓,填充詞不顯眼, she tells me to take one step at a time. I feel very grateful when I am with her, and I feel a little proud that she is my friend. She never gives me orders, she just listens and then she asks me a good question基本詞彙,限制了Lexical Resource的分數, and that helps me to think. I hope that when I will be old「when」之後的時態錯誤:應為「when I am old」 I can be as kind and as curious as she is. She is a very good基本形容詞,限制了Lexical Resource的分數 example for me.

Band 7

I’d like to describe Mrs Kamala Shrestha, an elderly neighbour of mine in Kathmandu. She’s seventy-eight and lives on the ground floor of our building, and I’ve known her since I was seven, when my family moved in. She was a primary school teacher for nearly forty years, and she still reads a newspaper from cover to cover every day. Many of her former pupils still drop in to see her, and a few of them have become doctors and engineers. On Saturday mornings we stroll精準的動詞選擇 to a small garden near the temple, then sit down with milk tea and talk. She tells me stories about her former pupils and about the city when it was far quieter than it is now正確使用帶時間子句的比較級, and she never forgets to ask about my plans. Her flat is crammed with books and plants, and the door is always open to anyone who wants a chat. What I admire most is how she handled losing her husband ten years ago: she didn’t turn bitter, she threw herself into自然使用的慣用片語動詞 a local women’s group and started a vegetable garden on the roof. Whenever I’m stressed out自然的口語化片語形容詞 about my exams, she reminds me to take things one step at a time. I feel genuinely grateful to know her, and a little proud that she consider主詞動詞不一致:應為「considers」 me a friend. What I value is that she never gives orders; she simply listens and then asks the right question, which usually helps me work out what I think. I hope that when I’m her age I’ll be as kind and as curious about other people as she is.

Band 8

I’d like to describe Mrs Kamala Shrestha, an elderly neighbour of mine in Kathmandu. She’s seventy-eight and lives on the ground floor of our building, and I’ve known her since I was seven, when my family moved in. She taught at a primary school for nearly forty years, and she still reads the newspaper from cover to cover every morning. Many of her former pupils still drop in, and a few of them have since become doctors and engineers, which she mentions with quiet pride. On Saturdays we amble精準、自然的動詞,表示悠閒地走 over to a small garden near the temple and settle down with milk tea, and she tells me about her former pupils and about a city that was a good deal quieter than the one I know搭配修飾語的比較級,用得自然又有掌控力. She never fails to ask about my plans, either. Her flat is crammed with books and plants, and her door is open to anyone who fancies a chat. What I admire most is how she coped with losing her husband ten years ago: rather than withdrawing, she threw herself into自然使用的慣用片語動詞 a local women’s group and started a vegetable garden on the roof. Whenever exams have me climbing the walls慣用說法,口語但貼切, she reminds me to take things one step at a time, and somehow it works. She never issues instructions; she listens, then asks precisely the question that helps me untangle my own thoughts. I feel deeply grateful to know her, and a little proud that she considers me a friend. If I’m honest引出個人反思的話語標記, I hope that when I reach her age I’ll be every bit as kind and curious as she is帶強調語氣的同等比較結構, because she has shown me that growing old need not mean growing smaller.

  • Band 6的「she live」和「I know her since」,在Band 7變成「I’ve known her since」,在Band 8維持準確,整個開頭說得沒有一個失誤。
  • Band 6把城市形容成「very quiet」,把這位女士形容成「a very good example」;Band 7說「far quieter than it is now」,Band 8說「a good deal quieter than the one I know」,並使用「threw herself into」和「climbing the walls」這類慣用語。
  • Band 6的「when I will be old」,在Band 7變成「when I’m her age」,Band 8則以帶反思的理由作結:「growing old need not mean growing smaller」。

  1. Why do younger people sometimes find it hard to talk to older people?
  2. What can older generations learn from younger people today?
  3. Do you think older people are treated with enough respect in your country?
  4. How have the lives of older people changed compared with those of your grandparents?
  5. Is it better for older people to live with their families or to live independently?
