to be at a loss I was completely at a loss, because nothing I tried worked.

to be in a bind I was in a bind because the deadline was the next day.

  • problem: shop stock list, numbers did not match
  • when, where: last November, family shop, Ulaanbaatar
  • who, how: Ganzorig, accountant, checked line by line, found double entries
  • feeling: stressed, then relieved, grateful, more confident

Band 6

I would like to talk about my cousin’s husband, Ganzorig, who help時態錯誤:應為「helped」 me with a problem in my family’s shop last November. The shop is in Ulaanbaatar and it sells things for school, and I work there on Saturdays. My aunt owns it, and that year she was giving me more responsibility, so I wanted to do the job well. At that time I looked after the stock list on the computer, but the numbers on the screen was主詞動詞不一致:應為「were」 not the same as the things on the shelves, and I did not know why. I was very stressed基本強調詞和形容詞,限制了Lexical Resource的分數 because my aunt wanted the report on Monday. I, er自然的停頓,填充詞不顯眼, tried to find the mistake for two evenings, but I could not. Then Ganzorig, who is an accountant, come時態錯誤:應為「came」 to the shop on Sunday when it was closed. He sat next to me and checked the list line by line. After one hour he find時態錯誤:應為「found」 that two deliveries were written two times, so the total was too big. He also showed me an easy way to check the list every week, you know當作停頓使用的填充詞, so I will not have the same problem again. I felt very happy基本形容詞,限制了Lexical Resource的分數 and a little shy because the mistake was so simple. It was make me詞形錯誤:應為「It made me」 feel more confident about my work, and I am really thankful to him. Now I check the list every Saturday before I go home, and my aunt says the report is always correct.

Band 7

I’d like to talk about my cousin’s husband, Ganzorig, who helped me with a problem in my family’s shop last November. The shop is in Ulaanbaatar and sells school supplies, and I work there on Saturdays. My aunt owns it, and that year she’d started trusting me with more responsibility, so I wanted to do the job properly. At that time I was looking after the stock list on the computer, but the numbers on the screen didn’t match what was actually on the shelves準確使用過去式的比較子句, and I couldn’t work out why. I was under a lot of pressure自然的詞語搭配,取代基本形容詞 because my aunt wanted the report on Monday. I’d spent two evenings searching for the mistake and I was getting nowhere, to be honest自然的話語標記,表達挫折感. Then Ganzorig, who’s an accountant, came to the shop on Sunday, when it was closed. He sat down beside me and went through the list line by line, and within an hour he’d found that two deliveries had been entered twice, which made the total far too high. He also showed me a simple way to check the list every week, so it wouldn’t happen again. Afterwards I felt enormously relieved精準的副詞和形容詞, and a little embarrassed because the mistake was so much simple強調詞錯誤:應為「so simple」. It gave me a lot more confidence描述長久影響的自然說法 in my work, and I’m genuinely grateful to him. These days I check the list before I leave every Saturday, and my aunt hasn’t found a single error since.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about my cousin’s husband, Ganzorig, who rescued me from a problem in my family’s shop last November. The shop, in Ulaanbaatar, sells school supplies, and I work there on Saturdays. My aunt owns it, and she had only recently started entrusting me with more responsibility, so I was determined to get it right. At the time I was responsible for the stock list on the computer, but the figures on the screen simply refused to match what was on the shelves自然生動的說法,過去式使用準確, and I couldn’t work out why. I was under real pressure精準的詞語搭配, since my aunt expected the report on Monday, and after two evenings of searching I was at a complete loss表示毫無頭緒的慣用語. Then Ganzorig, an accountant, came to the shop on Sunday, when it was closed. He sat beside me, went through the list line by line, and within an hour had spotted that two deliveries had been entered twice, which inflated the total準確使用過去完成式與關係子句. He also talked me through a simple weekly check精準的片語表達 so that it wouldn’t happen again. I felt enormously relieved, and slightly embarrassed that the cause was so simple, but what stayed with me more than anything自然的話語標記,引出反思 was how patiently he explained it, without making me feel foolish. It was a weight off my mind, and it has made me far readier to ask for help early instead of struggling alone. These days I check the list before locking up every Saturday, and the weekly routine he suggested has not failed me once.

  • Band 6的時態錯誤(「who help me」、「Ganzorig, who is an accountant, come」)在Band 7已經改成正確的過去式(「who helped me」、「came」),Band 8也維持乾淨。
  • Band 6用的是「very stressed」和「very happy」;Band 7改用「under a lot of pressure」和「enormously relieved」;Band 8再加上「at a complete loss」和「a weight off my mind」。
  • Band 6停在「I am really thankful to him」;Band 8則以一段反思收尾,說明這份幫助如何改變了說話者:「far readier to ask for help early instead of struggling alone」。

  • 回答了3個要點之後,就忘了最後一行「how you felt about the experience」。

  1. Why do some people find it hard to ask for help when they have a problem?
  2. Is it better to try to solve a problem alone first, or to ask someone straight away?
  3. Which kinds of problems are best left to experts rather than friends or family?
  4. How has the internet changed the way people look for solutions to everyday problems?
  5. Should schools spend more time teaching children how to solve problems on their own?
