How do you book IELTS One Skill Retake?

Booking a One Skill Retake is less a form-filling problem than a sequencing problem. Most of the requirements are decided before the moment you actually want to book, which is why people find the process confusing after the fact.

The order the steps happen in

IELTS.org sets out the sequence plainly: take your IELTS on computer test, having first made sure your test centre offers One Skill Retake; receive your results; book the retake; and complete it within 60 days of your original test day.

Notice where the check sits. “Make sure your test centre offers IELTS One Skill Retake before booking your full test” is step zero, not step three. A centre that does not offer the service cannot retroactively make your test eligible, and no amount of arguing after results day changes that. If you are booking a full test now and there is any chance you will want a single skill again later, ask that question today.

What you need in hand

The retake is attached to your original test record rather than created fresh, so the details have to line up. IDP describes the booking route as logging in to your IELTS profile, viewing your past test results and choosing the retake option on the skill you want, and says to use the same valid passport you used to book your original test. It also describes retakes as running at selected IELTS on computer centres.

If you cannot see your past test in your account, that is information rather than a glitch — it usually means the original test is not eligible, and the centre can tell you why in one message.

The 60 days are calendar days, and they start early

The window runs from the original test day, not from the day your results arrived. With results on IELTS on computer typically taking a few days, the clock is already running before you know whether you need a retake at all. In practice that leaves something closer to seven or eight usable weeks.

That is enough time to change one specific thing and not enough to change everything, which is a useful constraint if you treat it as one. Spend the first week diagnosing rather than practising: record answers, check them against the criteria, and find the pattern that repeats across topics. Before you book anything

Confirm the organisation you are applying to accepts a One Skill Retake result. Eligibility and acceptance are separate gates, and clearing the first one tells you nothing about the second. Ask in writing, keep the reply, and then book.
