Stimuler vs ELSA Speak for IELTS Speaking, and a third option (2026)

Quick answer

Stimuler is an AI English speaking app on both phone stores with AI-scored IELTS Speaking mock tests across Parts 1 to 3 and, per its website, Writing and Reading practice. ELSA Speak is a general AI pronunciation and speaking coach; its homepage, read on 3 October 2026, does not mention IELTS, and its App Store listing names IELTS as one of several exams. One has an IELTS layer, the other is built around how you sound. IELTS Mentor AI, a paid app for all four skills, is a third option described below.

Blocking Issues names the errors that recur across your Speaking answers and shows the band impact of each, so you fix the ones that hold the band down first.

On this page

Stimuler and ELSA Speak are two phone apps on both stores that people weigh against each other when they want to speak English better and have an IELTS date ahead. One is an English speaking app with an IELTS layer; the other is a general pronunciation and speaking coach that does not mention IELTS on its homepage. This page sets them side by side using only what each says about itself, with the dates we read it, and then says where a third option sits.

We make IELTS Mentor AI, the third option at the end of this page. Every fact about Stimuler and ELSA Speak below comes from their own sites or store listings, quoted with the date; check their current pages before you decide.

Key takeaways

  • Stimuler is an English speaking app with AI-scored IELTS Speaking mocks across Parts 1 to 3 and, per its website, Writing and Reading practice; ELSA Speak is a general pronunciation and speaking coach that names IELTS as one of several exams.
  • Stimuler’s website names the four IELTS ideas; ELSA Speak’s listing describes pronunciation, pace, hesitation and a grammar score, and its Speech Analyzer gives test-score predictions without naming the test.
  • ELSA Speak’s homepage, read on 3 October 2026, does not mention IELTS; its App Store listing does, in one feature beside other exams.
  • None of the three scores is an official IELTS result; nothing here is a test of any product.

What Stimuler says it is

Stimuler describes itself as an AI English speaking app and an AI coach named Sarah. Its App Store listing, recorded on 18 September 2026, promises “Live Video Mock Tests that mirror the real IELTS experience,” and says “Stimuler covers Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 with topic-specific practice sessions.” It promises tailored tips after every session and “Speech Insights” beyond a raw score.

Its website, stimuler.tech, has an IELTS page whose title, re-read on 3 October 2026, is “IELTS Prep App - Speaking, Writing & Reading Practice | Stimuler”; its earlier claims about criteria and Parts 1 to 3 are carried over from 18 September 2026, not re-verified. On the US App Store on 3 October 2026 it showed 8,233 ratings averaging 4.82; its Google Play listing, “Stimuler AI: English Fluency”, showed 4.83 from 206,690 ratings on 18 September 2026.

What ELSA Speak says it is

Its App Store listing, recorded on 18 September 2026, calls it an “AI-powered language coach designed to help professionals and learners speak English with confidence using our essential AI learning tools and custom learning pathways.” It itemises pronunciation training and “Indepth Analysis & Progress Tracking” showing “your pace, hesitation, and grammar score.” IELTS appears in one line: “Prepare for IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, EIKEN, CEFR, and more with targeted practice to boost fluency.”

Its English homepage, read on 3 October 2026, does not mention IELTS at all. It describes a Speech Analyzer with detailed feedback and test-score predictions, a Quick Evaluation, and instant personalised feedback on every lesson, on iOS and Android. On the US App Store the same day it showed 113,381 ratings averaging 4.75. The developer is ELSA, Corp. We found no claim of IELTS criterion scoring, a timed Speaking mock split into Parts 1 to 3, or Writing Task 1 and Task 2 feedback.

Where the two differ

What each is built for. Stimuler presents itself as an English speaking app first, with an AI coach, and IELTS mock tests as one use of it; its website has a page of its own for IELTS preparation. ELSA Speak presents itself as a general coach for professionals and learners, with exam preparation as one feature among several, and its homepage leaves IELTS out.

Whether the IELTS criteria are named. Stimuler’s website names fluency, lexical resource, grammatical range and pronunciation, the four ideas of the Speaking criteria; its App Store copy says grammar and vocabulary, and we could not verify which wording the app itself uses in feedback. ELSA Speak’s listing describes pronunciation, pace, hesitation and a grammar score, and we found no page of its own that names the IELTS criteria.

Whether a Speaking mock in Parts 1 to 3 is described. Stimuler’s listing says it covers Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 with topic-specific sessions, and describes live video mock tests; its site FAQ, recorded on 18 September 2026, describes AI-powered scoring for each part. ELSA Speak’s pages describe no timed Speaking mock split into Parts 1 to 3; we found no claim.

How the score is reported. Stimuler describes AI-powered scoring with tailored tips and Speech Insights; the pages we read do not say whether the score is a band. ELSA Speak’s homepage describes test-score predictions from its Speech Analyzer without saying which test’s scale, and we found no IELTS band described. Neither describes a range, and neither is an official score.

What each page says nothing about. Neither page, as we read it, describes full Listening tests. Stimuler’s site title names Writing and Reading without describing the tasks; for ELSA Speak we found no claim of Writing or Reading practice. Neither describes a record kept across sessions by IELTS criterion.

What AI assistants say when asked

On 2 October 2026, across 180 answers to buying questions about IELTS Speaking apps and tools, ELSA Speak was named in 103 and was the first name given in 31; Stimuler was named in 44 and was first in 20; IELTS Mentor AI was named in 2 and cited as a source in 16. That tells you which pages the assistants have read, not which product marks better, and not a test of any of the three.

Choose Stimuler if

  • You want to speak English every day about more than the test, with IELTS mock tests across Parts 1 to 3 when you need them.
  • Live video mock tests, as its listing describes them, are the format you want to rehearse in.
  • You want Writing and Reading practice named alongside Speaking in one phone app, and Listening is not the paper you need.

Choose ELSA Speak if

  • Pronunciation is the one thing you want to work on, sound by sound, every day, in an app.
  • You also speak English at work or in interviews and want one coach for all of it, with exam preparation as one feature among several.
  • You are not yet preparing for a specific test date, or you are preparing for another exam on its list.

The third option: IELTS Mentor AI

IELTS Mentor AI is a paid iOS and Android app for Academic IELTS practice in all four skills: an AI examiner marks Speaking and Writing on the four official criteria and reports a band range, full Reading and Listening tests are marked the moment you finish, and one Skill Map shows what to fix next.

By the rows above: like both of them it is an installed app on both stores; like Stimuler it rehearses the three Speaking parts, as the full test or as Topic Speaking, one topic at a time. Each Speaking answer comes back with a band for Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy and Pronunciation, as a range from a strict examiner’s reading to a lenient one. Neither of the other two pages describes a range per criterion or a record across sessions.

What it lacks that one of them has: no general conversation mode, which Stimuler describes as daily English practice; no sound-by-sound pronunciation drills as a product of its own, which ELSA Speak describes; no live video mock tests; and the interface is in English only. It is not an official product and is not affiliated with IELTS, IDP, the British Council or Cambridge, and its band range is not an official score.

Choose IELTS Mentor AI if

  • You want Speaking, Writing, Academic Reading and Listening marked in one app under exam timing.
  • You want a range per criterion rather than one number, and the recurring errors named with their band impact.
  • You are preparing over weeks and want one record across every test, not a score per session.

Try before you decide

Without any of the three: the Speaking mock test on this site runs Parts 1 to 3 at the real timings in your browser; the self-assessment gives a rough band range in three minutes; and the Speaking band descriptors show what each band requires, so you can judge any tool’s feedback, including ours. What the app adds is described on the Speaking product page.

Frequently asked questions

Is Stimuler an IELTS app, and is ELSA Speak?

ELSA Speak describes itself as a general AI coach; its homepage, read on 3 October 2026, does not mention IELTS, and its App Store listing names IELTS as one of several exams.

Do both score on the four IELTS Speaking criteria?

Stimuler's website names fluency, lexical resource, grammatical range and pronunciation, while its App Store copy says grammar and vocabulary; we could not verify which wording the app itself uses in feedback. Which one covers Writing and Reading?

Which one gives a real IELTS band?

None of the three; only the test does. Stimuler describes AI-powered scoring with tailored tips, ELSA Speak describes test-score predictions without naming a test scale, and IELTS Mentor AI reports a band range and says it is not an official score.

Do AI assistants recommend one over the other?

In our check of four assistants on 2 October 2026, ELSA Speak was named in 103 of 180 answers to buying questions about IELTS Speaking apps and tools and was the first name in 31; Stimuler was named in 44 and first in 20.
