এই কিউ কার্ডের উত্তর যেভাবে সাজাবেন

এই কিউ কার্ড (cue card) বর্ণনা ও ব্যক্তিগত কারণের মিশ্রণ। পরীক্ষকেরা শোনেন, জায়গাটির সঙ্গে আপনার পরিচয়ের সংক্ষিপ্ত বিবরণ, সেটি দেখতে কেমন তার একটি স্পষ্ট ছবি, আর তারপর “enjoy”-এর এমন একটি কারণ, যা “it is nice”-এর চেয়ে নির্দিষ্ট। কার্ডে উদাহরণ হিসেবে গ্রন্থাগার, শপিং সেন্টার ও খেলার হলের কথা আছে, তাই সাধারণ মানুষ যেখানে ঢুকতে পারে এবং আপনি যেটি একাধিকবার ব্যবহার করেছেন, এমন যেকোনো ভবন বেছে নিন।

সবচেয়ে সহজ বাস্তব পথ হলো আপনার রুটিনের সঙ্গে জড়িয়ে থাকা কোনো ভবন: পরীক্ষার আগে যে গ্রন্থাগারে পড়তেন, যে খেলার হলে বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে খেলতেন, যে শপিং সেন্টারে পরিবারের সঙ্গে সপ্তাহান্ত কাটাতেন। আপনি সত্যিই যে ভবন ব্যবহার করেন, তার আলো, শব্দ, আসবাব ও মানুষজন নিয়ে সত্যিকারের খুঁটিনাটি বলা যায়, যা শুধু বাইরে থেকে দেখা কোনো নামী স্থাপনার চেয়ে অনেক বেশি বিশ্বাসযোগ্য।

“where” আর “how you first came to know it” সংক্ষেপে সারুন, আর সময়ের প্রায় অর্ধেক দিন “what it looks like” অংশে। বর্ণনা করুন যেন কোনো দর্শনার্থীকে দরজা দিয়ে ভেতরে নিয়ে যাচ্ছেন: প্রবেশপথ, প্রধান কক্ষ, আপনার পছন্দের একটি বৈশিষ্ট্য। তারপর শেষ করুন ব্যক্তিগত একটি কারণ দিয়ে, যেমন প্রশান্তি, স্মৃতি বা মন বসাতে সাহায্য করার ক্ষমতা।

যে শব্দভান্ডার এই উত্তরকে এগিয়ে নেয়

এই শব্দগুচ্ছগুলো “big” বা “nice”-এর চেয়ে ভবনের চেহারা ও পরিবেশ আরও নির্ভুলভাবে বোঝায়।

I want to describe the public library in my neighbourhood in Curitiba, which is a place I really enjoy to visit. It is about ten minutes from my house, near a small park. I first know it when I was ten years old because my grandmother bring me there to find books for a school project. At that time I was, er, a little shy, but the librarian was very kind and she showed me the children’s corner. Now the building looks very old and very nice. It has a glass front and a high ceiling, and inside there are long wooden tables where people read and study. There are a lot of windows, so the room has good light even in the afternoon. On weekends they also have small events, for example a book club for teenagers and drawing lessons for children. I usually go on Saturday morning and stay since three hours, and I always leave with a good feeling. The librarians knows my name now, so it feels more welcome. I enjoy visiting it because it is quiet and I can concentrate me better than at home. Also, I often meet my old school friends there, you know, and we study together in the same table. When I am very stressed before exams last year, I went there every day, and it helped me a lot. For me it is not just a building, it is a very good place.

ব্যান্ড 6-এর ভুলগুলো (“I first know it”, “my grandmother bring me there”) ব্যান্ড 7-এ নির্ভুল (“I first got to know it”, “my grandmother took me there”) এবং ব্যান্ড 8-এ পরিষ্কারই থাকে।
ব্যান্ড 6 ভবনটিকে বর্ণনা করে “very old and very nice” বলে; ব্যান্ড 7 তা উন্নত করে “well maintained”-এ; ব্যান্ড 8 সেই শব্দগুচ্ছ রাখে এবং যোগ করে “tucked away beside a small park” ও “properly at ease”।
ব্যান্ড 6 বলে “it is quiet and I can concentrate me better”; ব্যান্ড 7 “so quiet that” দিয়ে ভালো একটি কাঠামো গড়ে, কিন্তু একটি ভুল (“concentrate more good”) রেখে দেয়; ব্যান্ড 8 একটি মসৃণ বাক্যাংশে পৌঁছায়: “which lets me concentrate far better than I can at home”।

এই কার্ডে সাধারণ ভুল

ভবনটিকে “big and beautiful” বলে বর্ণনা করা, অথচ একজন দর্শনার্থী ভেতরে আসলে কী দেখবেন, তার কোনো খুঁটিনাটি না দেওয়া।
এই কার্ডটিকে মুগ্ধ করা ভবনের কার্ডের সঙ্গে গুলিয়ে ফেলা: এখানে প্রশ্ন হলো কেন সেখানে যেতে আপনার ভালো লাগে, ভবনটি কেন নজরকাড়া, তা নয়, তাই ভবনের আকার, বয়স বা নকশার চেয়ে আপনার নিজের অভ্যাস ও স্মৃতি বেশি জরুরি।
“how you first came to know it” বাদ দেওয়া বা মাত্র কয়েকটি শব্দে সারা, অথচ ছোট একটি গল্প উত্তরটিকে ব্যক্তিগত করে তোলে।
এমন ভবন বেছে নেওয়া, যা আপনি কখনো ব্যবহার করেননি, তারপর কেন সেখানে যেতে ভালো লাগে তা বলতে গিয়ে কথা ফুরিয়ে ফেলা।

এরপর প্রায়ই যে Part 3 প্রশ্ন আসে

সর্বজনীন ভবন বলতে কী বোঝায়?

কার্ডে উদাহরণ হিসেবে গ্রন্থাগার, শপিং সেন্টার ও খেলার হলের কথা আছে, তবে জাদুঘর, রেলস্টেশন, কমিউনিটি সেন্টার বা টাউন হলও চলে। এমন জায়গা বেছে নিন, যেখানে যে কেউ ঢুকতে পারে এবং যেটি আপনি সত্যিই ব্যবহার করেছেন।

“a building you find impressive” কার্ডটি থেকে এটি কীভাবে আলাদা?

মুগ্ধ করা ভবনের কার্ড বলে নজরকাড়া কিছুর বর্ণনা দিতে এবং কেন তা আপনাকে মুগ্ধ করে তা ব্যাখ্যা করতে। এই কার্ড জানতে চায় এমন জায়গা, যেখানে আপনি নিজের ইচ্ছায় যান, তাই ভবনটির আকার বা খ্যাতির চেয়ে আপনার নিজের অভ্যাস, প্রথম যাওয়া এবং বারবার ফিরে যাওয়ার কারণ বেশি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

ভবনটি কি সুন্দর হতেই হবে?

না। পাড়ার সাধারণ একটি গ্রন্থাগার বা খেলার হলও চমৎকার উত্তর হতে পারে, যদি সেটি ঠিকভাবে বর্ণনা করেন এবং সেখানে থাকার কোন দিকটি আপনার ভালো লাগে তা ব্যাখ্যা করেন, যেমন নীরবতা, মানুষজন বা বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে দেখা হওয়ার সুযোগ।
