  • situations: mother’s sixtieth birthday, her evening studies
  • why it matters: patients’ safety, less stress

Band 6

I would like to talk about my older sister Achieng, who live主詞動詞不一致:應為「lives」 in Kisumu. She works as a pharmacist in a hospital and she is also studying for a master’s degree in the evenings, so her days are, er自然的停頓,填充詞不顯眼, very busy. To stay organised she uses a paper planner and a calendar on her phone, and every night she prepare主詞動詞不一致:應為「prepares」 her bag and her clothes for the next day. On Sunday evening she sits down for ten minutes and plans the whole week. She also puts reminders on her phone for small things like paying bills or calling our parents. I notice this when our family plans something together. Last year our mother turned sixty, and Achieng make時態錯誤:應為「made」 one page with the guest list, the food and the transport, so everything go時態錯誤:應為「went」 well on the day. I also notice it when she studies, because her notes is主詞動詞不一致:應為「are」 in different colours and she knows what she will read on each day. Sometimes her friends laugh at her because she is always early for everything, but she don’t mind主詞動詞不一致:應為「doesn’t mind」. Being organised is important to her because in a pharmacy a small mistake with a medicine can be very bad基本詞彙,限制了Lexical Resource的分數 for a patient. It also helps her to not have stress基本且不自然的說法;用「avoid panicking」這類精準的動詞片語會得到更高的分數 when she is tired. Once I asked her how she does it, and she said that a plan takes ten minutes but it saves her many hours. I am not like her, I always do things at the last time說法不自然;一般的說法是「at the last minute」, so I think she is a very good基本形容詞;用「admirable」更能展現表達的範圍 example for me.

Band 7

I’d like to talk about my older sister Achieng, who lives in Kisumu. She works as a pharmacist in a hospital and she’s also studying for a master’s degree in the evenings, so her days are extremely busy. To stay organised she uses a paper planner and a calendar on her phone, and every night she packs her bag and lays out her clothes for the next day. On Sunday evening she sits down for ten minutes and plans the whole week. She also sets reminders on her phone for small things like paying bills or calling our parents. I notice this most when our family organises something together. Last year our mother turned sixty, and Achieng put the guest list, the food and the transport on one page, so everything went smoothly on the day結果子句與前面的動作銜接準確. I also see it in the way she studies: her notes are colour-coded and she knows exactly what she’ll revise on every day介系詞失誤:應為「revise each day」或「on each day」. Her friends sometimes tease her for always arriving early, but she doesn’t mind. Being organised matters to her because in a pharmacy a small mistake with a dose精準、切合主題的名詞片語 could seriously harm a patient. It also means she hardly ever has to panic自然地連回前面的理由 when she’s tired. When I asked her how she does it, she said that a plan takes ten minutes but saves her hours. Honestly, I’m not like her, I usually leave things until the last minute, so she’s a real example for me of how much calmer life can be.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about my older sister Achieng, who lives in Kisumu and is easily the most organised person I know. She works as a pharmacist in a hospital and is studying part time for a master’s degree, so her days are tightly packed. To keep on top of everything she uses a paper planner and a phone calendar, and every night she packs her bag and lays out her clothes for the following day. Every Sunday evening she sits down for ten minutes and maps out the whole week. She even sets phone reminders for small things such as paying bills or calling our parents. I notice this most whenever the family organises something together. When our mother turned sixty, Achieng put the guest list, the food and the transport on a single page, and nothing went wrong on the day, whereas I would probably have forgotten the cake對比子句搭配條件句,增添個人色彩. I also see it in the way she studies: her notes are colour-coded and she knows exactly what she’ll revise each day. Her friends tease her for turning up early everywhere自然、口語的片語動詞,意思精準, yet she takes it as a compliment. Being organised matters to her because in a pharmacy a small mistake with a dose精準、切合主題的名詞片語 could seriously harm a patient, and being methodical is part of being responsible把習慣與個性連在一起的抽象說法. It also spares her the panic that comes from rushing自然、靈活地說明對自己的好處. When I once asked her how she does it, she laughed and said that a plan takes ten minutes but saves hours. Honestly, I find it both inspiring and slightly intimidating, and I’m slowly borrowing a few of her habits.

  • Band 6的失誤(「who live」、「she prepare」、「Achieng make」)在Band 7已經正確(「who lives」、「she packs」),Band 8也維持乾淨,並以「easily the most organised person I know」開場,展現更多表達的範圍。
  • Band 6依賴「very bad」和「very good」;Band 7把理由磨得更精準,變成「a small mistake with a dose」;Band 8再加上「being methodical is part of being responsible」,把習慣和這個人的個性連起來。
  • Band 6在派對的故事之後就停下來(「everything go well on the day」);Band 8加上對比「I would probably have forgotten the cake」,並以個人的反應收尾:「both inspiring and slightly intimidating」。

  • 用「it is a good quality」回答「explain」那一行,而沒有把它連到對方生活中的某件事。

  1. Do you think people are born organised, or is it a skill that can be learned?
  2. Why do some people find it so hard to plan their time well?
  3. Which jobs depend most on being well organised, and why?
  4. Has technology made it easier to stay organised, or does it just add more distractions?
  5. Is it a good idea to teach children to plan their day from an early age?

有原因也有結果,例如「she has little spare time, so planning stops her from panicking」,聽起來比「it is a good quality」更有說服力。
