I’d like to talk about a novel that made me happy. It’s about a retired postman who decides to write short letters to the people in his village to encourage them. I’m from Recife, and a friend lent me the book last year when I was under a lot of pressureمتلازمة لفظية طبيعية للتعبير عن الضغط النفسي because of my exams. She said it was a lovely story and that it might help me relax. At first I didn’t expect much, but after the first chapter I couldn’t put it downفعل مركب اصطلاحي مع الفعل المساعد والزمن المناسبين. I finished it in four days, mostly at night. Every chapter follows a different neighbour, and I was dying to find outتعبير اصطلاحي غير رسمي لكنه دقيق عن فضول شديد how each letter would change his or her life. My favourite neighbour is a grumpy old man who replies with a recipe instead of a thank-you, and that scene is hilarious. I read that part twice because I wanted to enjoy it again. The ending was a surprise, because in the last pages the postman receives a letter himself. I laughed out loud on the bus at one of the funny scenes, and people stared at me. The book made me happy because it showed me that a small act of kindness can mean a great deal to someone. After I finished it, I started writing short notes to my friends, and they were happy to receivedخطأ في صيغة الفعل، والصواب «happy to receive» them.

  • الأخطاء العابرة في الزمن والتوافق في إجابة الدرجة 6 («a friend lend me» و«I laugh on the bus» و«the postman receive») تصبح صحيحة في إجابة الدرجة 7 («a friend lent me» و«I laughed out loud» و«the postman receives»)، وتخلو منها إجابة الدرجة 8.
  • تستخدم إجابة الدرجة 6 «very excited» و«very important»، وتقدّم إجابة الدرجة 7 «dying to find out» و«a great deal to someone»، وتضيف إجابة الدرجة 8 «touched and a little surprised» لوصف ردة فعل الأصدقاء.
  • تنتهي إجابة الدرجة 6 بعبارة «good book for everybody»، أما إجابة الدرجة 8 فتصوغ الصلة بين الكتاب والشعور في جملة واحدة: «What made the book so uplifting was how it showed that a small act of kindness can mean a great deal to someone».

  • قول «it was interesting» أو «it was good» دون تسمية مشهد أو شخصية أو لحظة.

  1. Why do some people prefer printed books to reading on a screen?
  2. Do you think reading for pleasure makes people happier than other kinds of entertainment?
  3. What kinds of books are most popular with young people in your country?
  4. Should schools encourage children to read for enjoyment as well as for study?
  5. How do you think reading habits will change over the next twenty years?

هل بطاقة «Describe a book you read recently» هي نفسها هذه البطاقة؟

وفي حال الشك في تفصيل ما، يمكن وصف الكتاب بكلماتك، مثل «a novel about a retired postman»، وتخصيص الوقت للقصة ولسبب إسعاده لك.
