এই কিউ কার্ডের উত্তর যেভাবে সাজাবেন

এই কিউ কার্ড (cue card) একটি বই থেকে পাওয়া অনুভূতি নিয়ে, তাই পরীক্ষক গল্পের সারাংশের চেয়ে বেশি কিছু চান। প্রথম পয়েন্ট জানতে চায় বইটি কী এবং কী নিয়ে, আর যিনি পুরো মিনিট গল্পেই কাটিয়ে দেন, তাঁর হাতে শেষ লাইন “why it made you happy”-এর জন্য কিছুই থাকে না। পরীক্ষকেরা শোনেন present বা past-এ ছোট, স্পষ্ট একটি বর্ণনা, “it was interesting”-এর চেয়ে গভীর কারণ, আর আবেগ কিছুটা নির্ভুলভাবে ফুটিয়ে তোলা ভাষা।

সবচেয়ে সহজ পথ হলো এমন একটি বই বেছে নেওয়া, যা নিয়ে নোট ছাড়াই বলতে পারবেন: হয়তো কঠিন সময়ে পড়া কোনো গল্প, বন্ধুর ধার দেওয়া কোনো বই বা ছোটবেলায় ভালোবাসা কিছু। বইটি কী নিয়ে তা মাত্র দুটি-তিনটি বাক্যে বলুন, তারপর ব্যাখ্যা করুন কেন পড়তে শুরু করেছিলেন, যা সাধারণত নিজেই ছোট একটি গল্প। এরপর আপনাকে উত্তেজিত করেছিল এমন এক-দুটি মুহূর্ত বেছে নিন, যেমন একটি চমক, একটি চরিত্র বা মজার একটি দৃশ্য, এবং বলুন প্রতিটি আপনার কেমন লেগেছিল।

আপনার সবচেয়ে ভালো ভাষা রাখুন শেষ লাইনের জন্য। বই আর আপনার আনন্দের মধ্যে সংযোগই এই কার্ডের মূল কথা, আর বাসে হেসে ওঠা বা কোনো অভ্যাস বদলানোর মতো বাস্তব একটি ফল পরীক্ষককে এই সাধারণ মন্তব্যের চেয়ে বেশি বোঝায় যে বইটি “uplifting” ছিল।

to be hooked from the first chapter	একেবারে শুরু থেকেই আগ্রহী হয়ে পড়া	I was hooked from the first chapter.
a plot twist	গল্পে হঠাৎ অপ্রত্যাশিত মোড়	The plot twist near the end made me gasp.
to make me laugh out loud	এত মজার হওয়া যে সবার সামনে হেসে ফেলি	One scene made me laugh out loud on the bus.
to relate to a character	কোনো চরিত্রের অনুভূতি বুঝতে পারা ও তা নিজের মনে করা	I could relate to the main character’s worries.
to take my mind off something	কোনো সমস্যা নিয়ে ভাবনা থেকে মন সরিয়ে দেওয়া	It took my mind off my exams.
a feel-good story	এমন গল্প, যা মন ভালো করে দেয়	It is the kind of feel-good story I reread when I am low.

এক মিনিটের পরিকল্পনা

এক মিনিটের প্রস্তুতিতে যা লিখে রাখতে পারেন:

what: novel about a retired postman who writes encouraging letters to his neighbours
why: a friend lent it during exam stress, last year
exciting: each chapter a different neighbour, surprise letter at the end
happy: laughed on the bus, reminded me small kind acts matter, I now write notes to friends

একই উত্তর ব্যান্ড 6, 7 ও 8 স্তরে

নিচের তিনটি নমুনা উত্তর হুবহু একই গল্প বলে; শুধু ভাষা বদলায়। চিহ্নিত কোনো শব্দগুচ্ছের ওপর কার্সর রাখুন বা ট্যাপ করুন, তাহলে দেখবেন পরীক্ষক সেখানে কী লক্ষ করবেন। প্রতিটি ব্যান্ডের উত্তর সাধারণত কেমন শোনায়, এগুলো তার উদাহরণ হিসেবে পড়ুন, মুখস্থ করার জন্য নয়।

I’d like to talk about a novel that made me happy. It is about a retired postman who decide to write short letters to the people in his village to encourage them. I’m from Recife, and a friend lend me the book last year when I was, er, very stressed about my exams. She said it was a nice story and that it could help me relax. In the beginning I didn’t expected much, but after the first chapter I was interested and I can’t stop reading. I finished it in four days, mostly in the night. Every chapter is about a different neighbour, and I was very excited to see how the letter changed his or her life. My favourite neighbour is an old man who reply with a recipe, not a thank you, and that scene is very funny. The ending was a surprise, because at the end the postman receive a letter, too. I laugh on the bus when I read one of the funny parts, and people looked at me. The book made me happy because it showed me that a small kind action can be very important for another person. After I finished it, I started to write short notes to my friends, you know, and they were happy to received them. I think it is a good book for everybody, and I want to read it again in the future.

এটি কি “Describe a book you read recently” কার্ডেরই মতো?

না, যদিও দুটিতে কিছু ভাবনা মিলে যায়। সম্প্রতি পড়া বইয়ের কার্ড জানতে চায় আপনি হালে কোন বই পড়েছেন এবং তা অন্যদের পড়তে বলবেন কি না। এই কার্ডে সময়ের কোনো সীমা নেই এবং এটি একটি অনুভূতি নিয়ে, তাই বইটি বেছে নেওয়ার কারণ আর তা থেকে পাওয়া আবেগই উত্তরের কেন্দ্র।

শিশুদের বই বা কমিক বেছে নেওয়া কি চলে?

হ্যাঁ। কার্ড কোনো গুরুগম্ভীর বা বিখ্যাত বই চায় না। শিশুদের গল্প, কমিক বা স্কুলে পড়া কোনো বই উষ্ণ ও খুঁটিনাটিতে ভরা উত্তর হতে পারে, আর ছোটবেলায় ভালোবাসা বই নিয়ে বলা প্রায়ই সহজ।

বইয়ের নাম আর লেখকের নাম কি মনে রাখতে হবে?

নামটি বলতে পারলে সুবিধা হয়, তবে লেখকের নাম মনে না থাকলে নম্বর কাটা যাবে না। কোনো খুঁটিনাটি নিয়ে অনিশ্চিত থাকলে বইটি নিজের ভাষায় বর্ণনা করুন, যেমন “a novel about a retired postman”, আর সময় দিন গল্পে এবং কেন এটি আপনাকে খুশি করেছিল সে কথায়।
