考官會聽你有沒有用到描述材料和成品的詞彙、有沒有用關係子句(「a man who makes」、「chairs that last」),以及是否給出比「it is difficult」更有深度的說明。

  • why admire: patience, precision, things last, he teaches children

Band 6

I would like to talk about my neighbour, Seu Antonio, who is very good at making things from wood. He is a retired carpenter and he live主詞動詞不一致:應為「lives」 next door to my family in Curitiba, in Brazil. I know him since時態錯誤:應為「have known him since」 I was a small child, because I use to詞形錯誤:應為「used to」 sit outside his workshop and watch him work. He makes wooden chairs, small toys for the children in our street, and once he made a bookshelf for my mother, which we still have in our living room. He learned the work from his father when he was a teenager, and last Christmas he made a small wooden train for my little brother, who still sleeps with it. What I remember is the smell of the wood and the sound of his tools, and sometimes he let me hold the sandpaper, and he was, er自然的停頓,填充詞不顯眼, always very careful with every piece. He don’t use助動詞錯誤:應為「doesn’t use」 machines for the small parts, and he sands each toy until it is very smooth基本詞彙,限制了Lexical Resource的分數. I admire this skill for some reasons. First, it needs a lot of patience, and I am not a patient person, so I think it is very difficult基本詞彙,限制了Lexical Resource的分數. Second, the things he makes is主詞動詞不一致:應為「are」 strong and they last for many years, not like cheap things from a big shop. You know當作停頓使用的填充詞, he also teaches the children to make a small boat, and I think this is a good way to keep the old skill alive. Maybe one day I will learn it from him too.

Band 7

I’d like to talk about my neighbour, Seu Antonio, who’s extremely good at making things from wood. He’s a retired carpenter and he lives next door to my family in Curitiba, in Brazil. I’ve known him since I was a small child, because I used to sit outside his workshop and watch him work正確使用「used to」表示過去反覆的習慣. He makes wooden chairs, small toys for the children in our street, and once he built a bookshelf for my mother, which we still have in our living room. He learned the work from his father when he was a teenager, and last Christmas he made a small wooden train for my little brother, who still sleeps with it. What I remember most is the smell of the wood and the sound of his tools, and sometimes he let me hold the sandpaper, and he was always meticulous about every piece精準的形容詞,搭配自然的介系詞. He doesn’t use machines for the small parts, and he sands each toy until it’s smooth like silk介系詞錯誤:應為「smooth as silk」. I admire this skill for a few reasons. Firstly, it takes enormous patience, which I am lacking說法不自然:用「I lack」或「I don’t have」更道地. Secondly, what he makes is built to last自然的固定說法, unlike the cheap things you find in a big shop. What’s more自然地補上一個論點的連接用語, he teaches the local children to make a small boat, and I think that’s a good way of keeping the old skill alive. I’m hoping to learn it from him one day.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about my neighbour, Seu Antonio, who’s remarkably good at making things from wood. He’s a retired carpenter and lives next door to my family in Curitiba, in Brazil. I’ve known him since I was small, because I used to sit outside his workshop for hours, watching him work. He makes wooden chairs and small toys for the children in our street, and he once built a bookshelf for my mother that still stands in our living room. He learned the work from his father when he was a teenager, and last Christmas he made a small wooden train for my little brother, who still sleeps with it. What I remember most is the smell of fresh wood and the sound of his tools, and sometimes he let me hold the sandpaper, and he was always meticulous about every piece精準的形容詞,搭配自然的介系詞. He doesn’t use machines for the delicate parts, and he sands each toy until it’s smooth as silk自然的比喻,用法準確. I admire the skill for several reasons. Firstly, it demands a kind of patience that I have yet to develop描述尚未達成之事的自然句型. Secondly, what he makes is built to last自然的固定說法, whereas the things you buy in a big shop tend to wear out. Above all, he doesn’t keep the knowledge to himself否定句搭配反身代名詞,使用自然: he teaches local children to make a small boat, which strikes me as the best way of keeping an old craft alive. I’m hoping to learn it from him one day.

  • Band 6的主詞動詞不一致與助動詞失誤(「he live next door」、「He don’t use」)在Band 7已經正確(「he lives next door」、「He doesn’t use」),Band 8也維持乾淨。
  • Band 6依賴「very smooth」和「very difficult」;Band 7改用「meticulous about every piece」;Band 8加上「smooth as silk」和「have yet to develop」。
  • Band 6把理由說成「for some reasons」和「last for many years」;Band 7和Band 8使用固定說法「what he makes is built to last」,Band 8還用「whereas the things you buy in a big shop」加上對比。

  • 忘了「how you know them」這一項,或只用一個短語帶過。

  1. Why are handmade products often valued more highly than factory-made ones?
  2. Do you think traditional crafts will survive in the future?
  3. Should schools teach children practical crafts such as sewing or woodwork?
  4. Is making things by hand mainly a hobby or a job nowadays?
  5. What can people gain from learning a craft later in life?
