試験官が聞くのは、材料や仕上がりを表す描写の語彙、「a man who makes」や「chairs that last」のような関係詞節(relative clause)、そして「it is difficult」よりも深く考えられた説明です。

Band 6

I would like to talk about my neighbour, Seu Antonio, who is very good at making things from wood. He is a retired carpenter and he live主語と動詞の不一致:正しくは「lives」 next door to my family in Curitiba, in Brazil. I know him since時制の誤り:正しくは「have known him since」 I was a small child, because I use to形の誤り:正しくは「used to」 sit outside his workshop and watch him work. He makes wooden chairs, small toys for the children in our street, and once he made a bookshelf for my mother, which we still have in our living room. He learned the work from his father when he was a teenager, and last Christmas he made a small wooden train for my little brother, who still sleeps with it. What I remember is the smell of the wood and the sound of his tools, and sometimes he let me hold the sandpaper, and he was, er自然な間、気にならないつなぎ言葉, always very careful with every piece. He don’t use助動詞の誤り:正しくは「doesn’t use」 machines for the small parts, and he sands each toy until it is very smooth基本的な語彙で、Lexical Resourceの評価が伸びない. I admire this skill for some reasons. First, it needs a lot of patience, and I am not a patient person, so I think it is very difficult基本的な語彙で、Lexical Resourceの評価が伸びない. Second, the things he makes is主語と動詞の不一致:正しくは「are」 strong and they last for many years, not like cheap things from a big shop. You know間を埋めるつなぎ言葉として使っている, he also teaches the children to make a small boat, and I think this is a good way to keep the old skill alive. Maybe one day I will learn it from him too.

Band 7

I’d like to talk about my neighbour, Seu Antonio, who’s extremely good at making things from wood. He’s a retired carpenter and he lives next door to my family in Curitiba, in Brazil. I’ve known him since I was a small child, because I used to sit outside his workshop and watch him work過去の繰り返された習慣を表す「used to」を、正確に使っている. He makes wooden chairs, small toys for the children in our street, and once he built a bookshelf for my mother, which we still have in our living room. He learned the work from his father when he was a teenager, and last Christmas he made a small wooden train for my little brother, who still sleeps with it. What I remember most is the smell of the wood and the sound of his tools, and sometimes he let me hold the sandpaper, and he was always meticulous about every piece自然な前置詞を伴う、的確な形容詞. He doesn’t use machines for the small parts, and he sands each toy until it’s smooth like silk前置詞の誤り:正しくは「smooth as silk」. I admire this skill for a few reasons. Firstly, it takes enormous patience, which I am lacking不自然な言い回し:「I lack」または「I don’t have」のほうが自然. Secondly, what he makes is built to last自然な定型表現, unlike the cheap things you find in a big shop. What’s more話の流れを保ちながら、自然に論点を加える表現, he teaches the local children to make a small boat, and I think that’s a good way of keeping the old skill alive. I’m hoping to learn it from him one day.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about my neighbour, Seu Antonio, who’s remarkably good at making things from wood. He’s a retired carpenter and lives next door to my family in Curitiba, in Brazil. I’ve known him since I was small, because I used to sit outside his workshop for hours, watching him work. He makes wooden chairs and small toys for the children in our street, and he once built a bookshelf for my mother that still stands in our living room. He learned the work from his father when he was a teenager, and last Christmas he made a small wooden train for my little brother, who still sleeps with it. What I remember most is the smell of fresh wood and the sound of his tools, and sometimes he let me hold the sandpaper, and he was always meticulous about every piece自然な前置詞を伴う、的確な形容詞. He doesn’t use machines for the delicate parts, and he sands each toy until it’s smooth as silk自然で正確な比喩表現. I admire the skill for several reasons. Firstly, it demands a kind of patience that I have yet to developまだ達成していないことを表す、自然な構文. Secondly, what he makes is built to last自然な定型表現, whereas the things you buy in a big shop tend to wear out. Above all, he doesn’t keep the knowledge to himself再帰代名詞を伴う否定形を、自然に使っている: he teaches local children to make a small boat, which strikes me as the best way of keeping an old craft alive. I’m hoping to learn it from him one day.

  • バンド6の主語と動詞の不一致、助動詞のミス(「he live next door」と「He don’t use」)は、バンド7では正確になり(「he lives next door」と「He doesn’t use」)、バンド8でもミスはありません。
  • バンド6は「very smooth」と「very difficult」に頼っています。バンド7は「meticulous about every piece」に移り、バンド8は「smooth as silk」と「have yet to develop」を加えています。
  • バンド6は理由を「for some reasons」と「last for many years」と述べています。バンド7とバンド8は定型表現「what he makes is built to last」を使い、バンド8はさらに「whereas the things you buy in a big shop」で対比を加えています。

  • 「how you know them」の項目を忘れる、または短い一言ですませること

  1. Why are handmade products often valued more highly than factory-made ones?
  2. Do you think traditional crafts will survive in the future?
  3. Should schools teach children practical crafts such as sewing or woodwork?
  4. Is making things by hand mainly a hobby or a job nowadays?
  5. What can people gain from learning a craft later in life?
