กรรมการสอบที่ฟัง Lexical Resource (คลังคำศัพท์) ในหัวข้อนี้ต้องการมากกว่าคำว่า “nice” และสังเกตว่าคุณก้าวข้าม “very good”, “very beautiful” และ “very tired” ไปสู่ collocation (คำที่มักใช้คู่กัน) ที่เจ้าของภาษาใช้คู่กันจริงๆ เช่น “soak up the atmosphere” หรือ “off the beaten track” ได้หรือไม่ และพูดถึงข้อเสียของการเดินทาง เช่น “overtourism” ได้เป็นธรรมชาติเท่ากับข้อดีหรือไม่

ถ้าคุณค้นหาคำศัพท์เรื่องวันหยุดมากกว่าคำศัพท์เรื่องการเดินทาง กลุ่ม Band 6 และ 7 ด้านล่างครอบคลุมคำที่ใช้บรรยายวันหยุดเอง ได้แก่ “a beach holiday”, “a day trip”, “a long weekend”, “a package holiday”, “a staycation” และ “peak season” คำเหล่านี้ตอบคำถาม Part 1 “What kind of holidays do you like?” ได้โดยตรง ส่วน “recharge my batteries” หรือ “a well-earned break” อธิบายเหตุผลว่าทำไม

  • Part 1คำถามช่วงเกริ่นนำเกี่ยวกับชีวิตของคุณเอง เช่น “Do you prefer travelling alone or with other people?”
Describe a place you visited that you would recommend to others, Describe a quiet place where you like to spend time, Describe a natural place you have visited
  • Part 3คำถามต่อเนื่องเชิงนามธรรม ซึ่งความแม่นยำสำคัญที่สุด เช่น “Does tourism do more harm than good to popular destinations?”

a very nice place a breathtaking spotคำคุณศัพท์ที่หนักแน่นและเจาะจงกว่า
it was very crowded it was packed with touristsวลีที่ใช้คู่กันตามธรรมชาติแทน “very”
I want to see new things I want to broaden my horizons
the trip was tiring the trip took its toll on meวลีธรรมชาติที่กรรมการสอบให้คะแนนเพราะพบได้ไม่บ่อย
we planned everything before we went we planned the trip down to the last detailเพิ่มความเจาะจงโดยไม่เสี่ยงด้านไวยากรณ์เพิ่ม
it is a place tourists like it is a hidden gemเป็นสำนวนและใช้เฉพาะในบริบทการเดินทาง
I like to relax on holiday I like to unwind on holidayกริยาที่เป็นธรรมชาติกว่า ไม่ต้องใช้ “relax” ซ้ำ
the flight was very long the flight was a real slogไม่เป็นทางการแต่เป็นธรรมชาติในภาษาพูด
I was very tired after the flight I was jet-lagged after the flight
we stayed at home for the holiday we had a staycationคำนามคำเดียวสื่อความคิดทั้งหมด

“off the beaten track” จัดอยู่ที่ Band ไหน?

พูด “a very nice place” ใน Speaking ได้อย่างปลอดภัยไหม?

ได้ทั้งสองคำ “Holiday” เป็นคำแบบอังกฤษ ส่วน “vacation” เป็นแบบอเมริกัน และ IELTS.org ระบุว่าข้อสอบรับการสะกดทั้งแบบอังกฤษและอเมริกัน จึงไม่มีภาษาอังกฤษแบบใดถูกหักคะแนน สิ่งที่เกณฑ์ Lexical Resource ให้คะแนนคือการใช้คำให้ถูกต้อง เช่น “I went on holiday” หรือ “I went on vacation” ไม่ใช่ “I went to holiday” เลือกใช้อย่างใดอย่างหนึ่งแล้วใช้ให้ตลอดคำตอบ

“travel”, “a trip” และ “a journey” ต่างกันอย่างไร?

“Travel” คือกิจกรรมการเดินทางโดยรวม และโดยปกติเป็นคำนามนับไม่ได้ เช่น “I love travel”, “travel broadens the mind” “A trip” คือการไปเยือนหนึ่งครั้ง รวมช่วงเวลาที่ไม่อยู่บ้านด้วย เช่น “a day trip”, “a business trip” “A journey” คือการเดินทางจากที่หนึ่งไปอีกที่หนึ่ง เช่น “a long journey by train” การพูดว่า “a travel” หรือ “a journey to the beach” ทั้งที่หมายถึง trip เป็นความผิดพลาดชั่วขณะที่พบบ่อยที่สุดอย่างหนึ่งในหัวข้อนี้
