Los examinadores escuchan un hábito descrito en presente, expresiones de tiempo como “usually”, “most evenings” y “before I know it”, y razones que vayan más allá de “it is boring” o “it is a waste”.

Band 6
I would like to talk about watching short videos on my phone, which is an activity that wastes a lot of my timesError de plural: “time” es incontable aquí, debería ser “a lot of my time”. I’m a university student in Almaty, and I usually do it at night when I’m in bed, and also in the busError de preposición: debería ser “on the bus” on my way to classes. Normally I tell myself I will watch for only five minutes, but then I lose the track of timeError de artículo: debería ser “lose track of time” and one hour is gone, you knowMuletilla usada como marcador de vacilación. The videos are about everything, for example funny animals, cooking and music. I still do it because it is very easy and I don’t need to think. After a long day of studying my brain is tired, so I just look at the screen and relax. On Sundays it is even worse, because I have no lessons and I can stay in bed for the whole afternoon. I think it wastes my time because I don’t remember most of the videos the next day. It makeError de concordancia sujeto-verbo: debería ser “makes” me go to sleep more lateError en el comparativo: debería ser “later”, and in the morning I feel very tiredExpresión básica; limita el Lexical Resource and I can’t concentrate inError de preposición: debería ser “concentrate on” my lessons. If I used this time, I could read English books or do exercise, but it is difficult to stopExpresión vaga; limita el Lexical Resource. I tried to delete the app once, but after two days I downloadError de tiempo verbal: debería ser “downloaded” it again.
Band 7
I’d like to talk about watching short videos on my phone, which is an activity that wastes a lot of my time. I’m a university student in Almaty, and I usually do it at night when I’m in bed, and also on the bus on my way to classes. I always tell myself I’ll watch for just five minutes, but before I know it, an hour has slipped byForma natural y precisa de describir el tiempo perdido. The videos cover everything: funny animals, cooking, music. I still do it because it’s so easy and it takes no effort. After a long day of studying my brain is tired, so I switch offVerbo idiomático para relajar la mente and scroll. On Sundays it’s even worse, because there are no lessons and a whole afternoon can disappear. What makes it a waste of time is that I can hardly remember any of the videos the next day. It keeps me up much later than I intend toOración con un comparativo, usada con precisión, and in the morning I feel exhausted and can’t concentrate inError de preposición: debería ser “concentrate on” my lessons. My friends send me clips every day, and I don’t want to be the only one who doesn’t get the jokeFrase clara y natural que cierra la razón. Last month I checked the screen-time report on my phone, and it showed more than three hours a day, which genuinely shocked me. I even set a daily limit, but I just ignore the warning when it appears. If I used that time, I could read English books or exercise, but it’s hardly to stopError de forma de la palabra: debería ser “hard to stop”. I once deleted the app, but I put it back on after two days.
Band 8
I’d like to talk about watching short videos on my phone, which is probably my biggest time sinkSintagma nominal idiomático, preciso y natural. I’m a university student in Almaty, and I usually do it at night when I’m in bed, and also on the bus on my way to classes. I always tell myself I’ll watch for just five minutes, but before I know it, an hour has slipped by. The videos cover everything: funny animals, cooking, music. I still do it because it’s effortless: after a long day of studying my brain is tired, so I switch off and scrollPhrasal verbs naturales que describen un hábito mecánico. On Sundays it’s even worse, because there are no lessons and a whole afternoon can vanish without traceImagen vívida y precisa del tiempo perdido. What makes it a waste of time is that I can hardly remember any of the videos the next day. It keeps me up much later than I intend to, and in the morning I feel exhausted and struggle to concentrate on my lessons. My friends send me clips every day, and I don’t want to be the only one who doesn’t get the joke. Last month I checked the screen-time report on my phone, and it showed more than three hours a day, which genuinely shocked me. I even set a daily limit, but I simply ignore the warning when it appears. If I put that time into reading English books or exercising, I’d probably feel far betterSegundo condicional con una estructura paralela y un resultado claro, yet it is surprisingly hard to break the habitConector concesivo fluido que admite la contradicción. I once deleted the app, but I put it back on after two days, which tells me how firmly it has got its hooks into meImagen vívida e idiomática; registro preciso.
Qué hizo subir la banda
- Los deslices de concordancia de Band 6 (“It make me”, “My friends sends”) desaparecen en Band 7, que conserva solo dos pequeños deslices, y Band 8 está limpio (“struggle to concentrate on my lessons”).
- Band 6 dice “very tired” y “difficult to stop”; Band 7 usa “switch off” y “before I know it, an hour has slipped by”; Band 8 llama al hábito un “time sink” y cierra con “firmly it has got its hooks into me”.
- No dar una respuesta real a “why you still do it”, o responder solo “because it is fun”.
- Why do so many people spend hours every day on their phones?¿Por qué tanta gente pasa horas cada día con el celular?
- Do you think parents should limit the time children spend on screens?¿Crees que los padres deberían limitar el tiempo que los niños pasan frente a las pantallas?
- Is it possible to use social media in a way that is genuinely useful?¿Es posible usar las redes sociales de una manera realmente útil?
- How do the ways people spend their free time change as they get older?¿Cómo cambia la forma de pasar el tiempo libre a medida que las personas envejecen?
- Should the companies that make apps be responsible for how much time people spend on them?¿Deberían las empresas que crean apps ser responsables de cuánto tiempo pasa la gente en ellas?
Preguntas frecuentes
