Band 6

I would like to talk about a wristwatch my grandfather give to meError de tiempo verbal: debería ser “gave me”, which was actually his own watch that he wearError de tiempo verbal: debería ser “wore” for most of his adult life. Band 7

I’d like to talk about a wristwatch my grandfather gave me, which was actually his own watch that he’d wornPast Perfect usado correctamente en una oración de relativo for most of his adult life. He gave it to me on my eighteenth birthday, which felt like a fairly significant occasion in itself, but what made it stand out was that he didn’t just hand it over casually — he sat down with me beforehandMarcador de contraste que organiza la oración con naturalidad and explained where he’d bought it, decades earlier, along with a few stories I’d genuinely never heard, despite — well, despite having known him my entire lifeAutocorrección natural a mitad de la oración. It’s not an especially expensive watch, and if I’m honest, it doesn’t even keep perfect time anymore, but the sentimental value completely outweighsElección precisa del verbo that. What makes it special to me isn’t really the object itself but the fact that it came with those stories attached; it feels less like receiving a possession and more like being handed a small piece of family history I’m now responsible of keepingError de preposición: debería ser “responsible for”. I don’t wear it every day, mainly out of fear of damaging it, but I do wear it on occasions that feel significant, which I suppose is my own way of treasuring it rather than using it casuallyParáfrasis natural y precisa.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about a wristwatch my grandfather gave me — actually his own watch, which he’d wornAposición y Past Perfect usados con naturalidad for most of his adult life. He presented it to me on my eighteenth birthday, a significant occasion, but what made it stand out was that he didn’t simply hand it over; he sat me down beforehand and explained where he’d bought it, decades earlier, along with several stories I’d never heard, despite knowing him my entire life. It’s by no means an expensive watch, and, if anything, it no longer even keeps perfect time, yetEstructura contrastiva compleja its sentimental value far outweighs any of that. I rarely wear it day to day, out of fear of damaging it, but I do bring it out on occasions that feel meaningful, which I suppose is my own way of treasuring rather than merely using itParáfrasis precisa y natural. Looking back, what struck me most wasMarcador discursivo natural que introduce una reflexión how deliberate the gesture was — he’d thought carefully about the timing and the explanation, rather than it being some last-minute, generic presentFormulación precisa y natural, and that thoughtfulness is what has stayed with me.

Qué hizo subir la banda

  • Los deslices de tiempo verbal de Band 6 (“my grandfather give to me”, “he wear”) pasan a ser correctos en Band 7, con pasado y Past Perfect (“he’d worn”), y Band 8 añade una aposición para pulir más el resultado (“actually his own watch, which he’d worn”).
  • Band 6 dice “very expensive” y “the sentimental value is more important”; Band 7 lo ajusta con “outweighs”; Band 8 mejora la imagen del cierre con “entrusted with a small fragment of family history”.

  1. Do you think people put too much emphasis on expensive gifts?¿Crees que la gente da demasiada importancia a los regalos caros?
  2. How have gift-giving customs changed with online shopping?¿Cómo han cambiado las costumbres de hacer regalos con las compras en línea?
  3. Is it better to give a practical gift or a sentimental one?¿Es mejor regalar algo práctico o algo sentimental?
  4. Do you think handmade gifts mean more than bought ones?¿Crees que los regalos hechos a mano significan más que los comprados?

Preguntas frecuentes
