Bu cue card’a nasıl yaklaşmalı

Akıcı bir karşılaştırma (“unlike other chefs, she…”) cevabın düzeyini hızla yükseltir.

Band 7

I’d like to describe Lucia Mamani, a cook who’s a household name in Arequipa, the city in southern Peru where I live. She runs a small traditional restaurant near my district, and every Sunday she has a short slot on the local radio, where she explains old recipes from our region. She opened the restaurant twenty years ago, after working in her aunt’s kitchen as a girl. There are several reasons why people are so fond of her. First, her food tastes exactly like the dishes our grandmothers used to makeGeçmiş alışkanlık için “used to” doğal kullanılmış. Second, she’s completely down to earthYaygın collocation, yerinde kullanılmış: she comes out of the kitchen to greet every customer. Last year my family went there for my mother’s birthday, and she remembered my grandmother’s name, which took us all by surpriseDoğru zamanla kullanılmış deyimsel ifade. There’s often a queue outside at lunchtime, and some tourists even travel from Lima just to try her soup. She also trains young people from the neighbourhood, so they can find work in kitchens. Last month a journalist from a national newspaper wrote a piece about her, so her name is now spreading beyond the city. When I eat her food, I feel connected to my family and to our history. I feel proud that she comes from my city, and I respect her because she keeps our traditions alive. Band 8

I’d like to describe Lucia Mamani, a cook who is something of a household name in Arequipa, the city in southern Peru where I live. She runs a small traditional restaurant near my district, and every Sunday she has a short slot on the local radio, where she explains old recipes from our region. She opened it twenty years ago, having learned the trade in her aunt’s kitchen as a girl. There are several reasons why people are so fond of her. For one thing, her food tastes just like the dishes our grandmothers used to make. For another, she is so unassuming that she comes out of the kitchen to greet every customerKarmaşık yapıya hâkimiyeti gösteren sonuç cümlesi. Last year my family went there for my mother’s birthday, and she remembered my grandmother’s name, which took us all by surpriseDoğal kullanılmış deyimsel ifade. There’s often a queue outside at lunchtime, and some tourists even travel from Lima for a bowl of her soup. She also trains young people from the neighbourhood, which gives them a foot in the door of local kitchensDeyim içeren non-defining relative clause. Last month a journalist from a national newspaper profiled her, and her name is now travelling well beyond the city. Every time I eat her food, I feel connected to my family and to a shared history. I feel proud that she comes from my city, and I admire her because she keeps our traditions alive. What strikes me most, I think,Düşünülmüş bir görüşü açan discourse marker is that she has shown how a small business can become part of a whole community’s identity, and I’d love to learn from her one day.

Bandı yükselten ne oldu

  • Band 6’daki “she have”, “it taste” ve “my family go” ifadeleri Band 7’de doğru olur (“she has”, “tastes”, “went”) ve Band 8’de temiz kalır.
  • Band 6 “very tasty” ve “a very good person” ifadelerine yaslanıyor; Band 7 “completely down to earth” kullanıyor; Band 8 aynı fikri “so unassuming that she comes out of the kitchen to greet every customer” cümlesine dönüştürüyor.
  • Band 7 “a small business can matter to a whole community” ile kapanıyor; Band 8 bunu şehrin kimliğine genişletmeden önce “What strikes me most, I think,” ile keskinleştiriyor.

Bu karttaki yaygın hatalar

  • Kişinin adını ve işini vermek, ama çevredeki insanların onu neden sevdiğine dair hiçbir neden sunmamak.
  • “Famous in your local area” ifadesini ulusal ya da uluslararası bir ünlüyle karıştırıp gerçek ayrıntıyı tüketmek.
  • Açıklama olarak yalnızca “everyone knows him” ya da “he is very popular” demek; iki somut neden vermemek.

  1. What kinds of people become well known in a small community?Küçük bir toplulukta ne tür insanlar tanınmış olur?
  2. Do you think local celebrities are as important as national ones?
  3. Why do some people enjoy being famous while others avoid attention?Bazı insanlar neden ünlü olmaktan hoşlanırken bazıları dikkat çekmekten kaçınıyor?
  4. How has social media changed the way people become known in their town?Sosyal medya, insanların kasabalarında tanınma biçimini nasıl değiştirdi?
  5. Should well-known local people be expected to set a good example?
