  • food and occasion: sumalak, sweet wheat-sprout dish, Navruz (21 March), 2023
  • who and where: my aunt’s house in Samarkand, women of the family cook, about twenty relatives
  • cooking: overnight in a cauldron, stirred in turns, I joined at midnight, fell asleep on a rug
  • why: marks the start of spring, cooking together, you cannot hurry it

Band 6

I would like to talk about sumalak, a sweet dish from wheat sprouts that families in my country cooks主詞動詞不一致:應為「cook」 for Navruz, the spring new year on 21 March. The day I remember best are動詞形式錯誤:應為「was」 in 2023 at my aunt’s house in Samarkand. Sumalak take主詞動詞不一致:應為「takes」 more than one day, because the wheat grows for some days, then people grind it and cook it all the night in a big基本形容詞,限制了Lexical Resource的分數 pot on a wood fire, and somebody must stir it all the time. The women of my family take turns and sing時態錯誤:應為「took turns and sang」 the whole night. I never stay時態錯誤:應為「stayed」 awake for it before, so I came at about midnight, stirred a little and then slept on a rug. The smell of sweet steam filled the whole courtyard before sunrise. In the morning we ate it warm and very sweet, with bread, with twenty relatives, from my grandmother to my youngest cousin. Er自然的停頓,填充詞不顯眼, we eat it at Navruz because spring comes and the winter ends, and also because everybody cooks together and you cannot hurry it.

Band 7

I’d like to talk about sumalak, a sweet dish made from wheat sprouts that families in my country cook for Navruz, the spring new year, which falls on 21 March. The occasion I remember best was in 2023 at my aunt’s house in Samarkand. Sumalak takes more than a day to make: the wheat is sprouted for several days, then ground and cooked overnight in a huge cauldron over a wood fire, and it has to be stirred constantly精準、自然的詞語搭配, so the women of the family was taking主詞動詞不一致:應為「were taking」 turns through the night, singing and talking. I’d never stayed up for it before, so I joined them around midnight, stirred for a while and then fell asleep on a rug. The smell of sweet steam filled the whole courtyard before sunrise. We ate it the next morning, warm and very sweet, with flatbread, together with about twenty relatives, from my grandmother down to my youngest cousin正確使用「from… down to」表示範圍. The reason it belongs to Navruz is that清楚的連接用語,引出說明 it marks the arrival of spring, and what matters most is cooking together: you can’t hurry it.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about sumalak, a sweet dish made from wheat sprouts that families in my country cook for Navruz, the spring new year, which falls on 21 March. The occasion I remember best was in 2023 at my aunt’s house in Samarkand. Sumalak takes more than a day to make: the wheat is sprouted for several days, then ground and cooked overnight in a huge cauldron over a wood fire, and it has to be stirred constantly, so the women of the family take turns through the night, singing and talking. I’d never stayed up for it before, so I joined them around midnight, stirred for a while and then fell asleep on a rug. The smell of sweet steam filled the whole courtyard before sunrise. We ate it the next morning, warm, dark and very sweet, with flatbread, together with about twenty relatives, from my grandmother down to my youngest cousin. It’s eaten at Navruz because it marks the arrival of spring自然地用被動語態說明習俗, and because the whole point is cooking together: you can’t hurry it, so everyone has to sit and wait with each other.

  • Band 6的失誤(「families in my country cooks」、「The day… are」、「The women of my family take turns and sing」)在Band 7已被修正,只剩一個主詞動詞不一致的小失誤,Band 8則完全沒有錯誤。
  • Band 6說「big pot」和「all the night」;Band 7用「huge cauldron」和「stirred constantly」;Band 8在描述第一口的味道時加上「warm, dark and very sweet」。
  • Band 6用一連串短句說明理由;Band 7用「The reason it belongs to Navruz is that」引出;Band 8用被動句說明,並以一起等待的意象收尾。

  1. What kinds of food do people in your country eat on special occasions?
  2. Why do traditional dishes matter to a country's sense of identity?
  3. Are families cooking together less often than they used to?
  4. Do you think young people will keep food traditions alive?
  5. Should local festivals be shared with visitors from other countries?
