Band 6

The skill I would like to talk about is swimming, which I only properly learned as an adult, at around twenty-four, after avoiding it for most of my life because of a mild fear of deep water. I started with weekly lessonErro de artigo/plural: deveria ser “weekly lessons” at a local pool, mostly about staying calm in the water before we even go to techniqueErro de tempo verbal: deveria ser “went on to technique”, and then I slowly began practising alone once I feelErro de tempo verbal: deveria ser “felt” confident enough to go without an instructor watching. Honestly, it was a very hardVocabulário básico repetido skill at first; I hit a plateau after about two months where I could float and kick well but I still panicked the moment I tried to combine breathing with a stroke. It took almost a full year before I could swim confidentAdjetivo usado em vez de advérbio: deveria ser “confidently” across a pool without stopping, which felt embarrassingAdjetivo usado em vez de advérbio: deveria ser “embarrassingly” slow compared to children who learnsErro de concordância verbal: deveria ser “learned” the same thing in weeks. But slowly but surely, it did eventually click, somewhere around month nine, when the coordination between breathing and movement suddenly stopped feeling like, erHesitação natural, pequena muleta de linguagem, conscious effort. Once I properly learned it, I felt a strange mix of pride and regret — pride that I finally overcame something I had avoided for so long, but also regret that I didn’t push myself to learn it as a child, when it would come more natural to me.

Band 7

The skill I’d like to talk about is swimming, which I only properly learned as an adult, at around twenty-four, having avoided it for most of my life due to a mild fear of deep waterOração reduzida de particípio abrindo a frase. I started with weekly lessons at a local pool, mostly focused on just staying calm in the water before we even got to technique, and then I gradually began practising alone once I felt confident enough to go without an instructor watching. Honestly, it was a steep learning curveExpressão idiomática e precisa at first; I hit a plateau after about two months where I could float and kick reasonably well but still panicked the moment I tried combinePequeno deslize: falta o “to” antes do infinitivo breathing with strokes — or, well, tried to combine them, at leastAutocorreção natural no meio da frase. It took almost a full year altogether before I could swim confidently across a pool without stopping, which felt embarrassingly slow compared to children learning the same thing in a matter of weeksEstrutura comparativa precisa, com advérbio correto. But slowly but surelyCollocation idiomática e natural, it did eventually click, somewhere around month nine, when the coordination between breathing and movement suddenly stopped feeling like any real conscious effort at all.

Band 8

The skill I’d like to talk about is swimming, which I only properly learned as an adult, at around twenty-four, having avoided it for most of my life owing to a mild fear of deep waterOração reduzida de particípio usada com fluência. I began with weekly lessons at a local pool, focused initially on simply staying calm in the water before technique even entered the pictureParáfrase idiomática e natural, and gradually started practising alone once I felt confident enough to go without an instructor watching. Honestly, it was a steep learning curve at firstMarcador discursivo natural que abre a reflexão; I hit a plateau around the two-month mark, able to float and kick reasonably well yet still panicking the instant I tried combining breathing with strokesOração reduzida com coordenação complexa. It took nearly a full year before I could swim confidently across a pool without stopping — embarrassingly slow, I’ll admit, next to children picking up the same skillComentário idiomático preciso e autoconsciente in a matter of weeks. Slowly but surely, though, it eventually clicked, somewhere around month nine, when the coordination between breathing and movement simply stopped feeling like conscious effort. Once I’d properly mastered it, I felt a curious mix of pride and regret: pride at finally overcoming something I’d avoided for so long, but regret, too, that I hadn’t pushed myselfEstrutura paralela e equilibrada com Past Perfect to learn as a child, when it would doubtless have come far more naturally.

O que elevou a nota

  • A resposta de nota 6.0 confunde adjetivo e advérbio (“swim confident”, “felt embarrassing slow”, “come more natural”); as de nota 7.0 e 8.0 usam os advérbios corretamente do começo ao fim.
  • A resposta de nota 6.0 diz “a very hard skill”; a de nota 7.0 traz “a steep learning curve”; a de nota 8.0 mantém a expressão idiomática e vai além com “before technique even entered the picture”.
  • A resposta de nota 6.0 mostra os tempos verbais desmoronando de verdade (“before we even go to technique”); a de nota 7.0 corrige o tempo verbal e tem uma autocorreção (“or, well, tried to combine them, at least”); a de nota 8.0 não tem nenhuma hesitação, só uma abertura fluente com particípio (“having avoided it for most of my life owing to a mild fear of deep water”).
