Band 6

I would like to talk about the Zarafshan river in Uzbekistan, which flowError de concordancia sujeto-verbo: debería ser “flows” through the area around Samarkand. It starts high in the mountains where there are glaciers, and then it goes west across the valley toward Bukhara. I do not know all the details, but I remember from school that the name meanError de concordancia sujeto-verbo: debería ser “means” something like “gold-scattering”, which is a nice name for a river. Band 7

I’d like to talk about the Zarafshan river in Uzbekistan, which flows through the region around Samarkand. It rises high in the mountains, where there are glaciers, and then runs west across the valley towards Bukhara. I don’t know every detail, but I remember from school that its name is usually translated asFormulación cuidadosa y precisa para un dato del que el hablante no está seguro “gold-scattering”, which suits a river that brings so much life to the land. It matters mainly because farmers depend on its water to irrigate their fieldsVerbo con preposición e infinitivo de finalidad. Around Samarkand there are orchards producing wonderful fruit, and without the river they couldn’t grow nearly as much. My grandfather has a small orchard in a village beside it, and in summer he waits anxiously for the water to reach his trees. The cities use its water too, and in the evenings families walk along the bank. When I was a child, my school took us on a trip there, and I still remember how cold was the waterError de orden de palabras en una pregunta subordinada: debería ser “how cold the water was”. All in all, I think the river is important because so many people rely on itLa frase de resumen da a la respuesta un cierre claro, so we should keep it clean.

Band 8

I’d like to talk about the Zarafshan river in Uzbekistan, which flows through the region around Samarkand. It rises among glaciers high in the mountains and then runs west across the valley towards Bukhara. I don’t know every detail, but I remember from school that its name is usually translated as “gold-scattering”, which suits a river that brings so much life to the land. It matters chiefly because farmers rely on it to irrigate their fields; the orchards around Samarkand produce wonderful fruit, and without that water they couldn’t grow nearly as much. My grandfather keeps a small orchard in a village beside it, and every summer he waits anxiously for the water to reach his trees. The cities draw on it too, and on summer evenings families stroll along the bank, children trailing behind themLa construcción absoluta añade detalle sin una oración nueva. I went there on a school trip as a child and still remember how cold and clear the water was. All in allMarcador discursivo natural que señala una conclusión, I’d say it’s a lifeline for the region, which is exactly why we should do more to keep it clean.

Qué hizo subir la banda

  • Los deslices de concordancia de Band 6 (“which flow”, “the name mean”, “families goes”) son correctos en Band 7 y se mantienen limpios en Band 8.
  • Band 6 dice “very good” fruit y “a nice name”; Band 7 añade “orchards producing wonderful fruit” y “is usually translated as”; Band 8 sigue construyendo con “rely on it to irrigate” y “a lifeline for the region”.
  • Band 6 termina con un sencillo “so we must keep it clean”; Band 7 añade un marcador de resumen (“All in all”); Band 8 vuelve a vincular la conclusión con la importancia del río con “which is exactly why”.

  1. Why are rivers so important to the places that grow up beside them?¿Por qué los ríos son tan importantes para los lugares que crecen junto a ellos?
  2. How can rivers and lakes attract visitors to a region?¿Cómo pueden los ríos y los lagos atraer visitantes a una región?
  3. Do you think governments should do more to protect rivers from pollution?¿Crees que los gobiernos deberían hacer más para proteger los ríos de la contaminación?
  4. Are rivers still important for transport today, or have roads and railways replaced them?¿Siguen siendo importantes los ríos para el transporte hoy, o los han reemplazado las carreteras y los ferrocarriles?
  5. What can ordinary people do to look after natural water in their area?¿Qué puede hacer la gente común para cuidar el agua natural de su zona?

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Y si nunca he visitado el río?
