I’d like to talk about a weekend I spent at my uncle’s small farm, about two hours outside the city, which I visited with my parents and younger cousin during a school holiday a few years ago. We don’t visit that often, maybe once a year at most, so it always feels like a fairly significant change of scenery whenever we go. Over the two days we were there, we helped my uncle with a few small jobs around the farm, feeding the animals in the morning and helping repair a section of fence that had come loose, and in the afternoons we mostly just walked around the surrounding fields and sat outside talking, which sounds uneventful but was actually one of the more relaxing parts of the whole trip. One specific moment that stayed with me was standing outside early on the second morning, before anyone else was properly awake, and just listening to how completely quiet everything was compared to home, apart from the occasional sound of animals in the distance. Honestly, I felt genuinely calmer than I had in weeks, partly because there was no phone signal for most of the visit, which forced a kind of disconnection I wouldn’t have chosen for myself but ended up appreciating. It also gave me a much clearer sense of how differently my uncle experiences each day compared to us, since his whole routine is shaped by the animals and the weather rather than a fixed schedule. By the time we left, I remember genuinely not wanting to go back, which surprised me a little given how little we’d actually planned to do while we were there.

  • 성찰할 시간을 너무 일찍 남기려고 “who you went with” 항목과 “what you did there” 항목을 서둘러 넘기는 것
  • 이 카드를 “a natural place you have visited”와 혼동하는 것(그 카드는 사람이 사는 농촌 환경을 요구하지 않습니다)

  1. Do you think city life or countryside life is generally better for people?
  2. Why do some people choose to move from cities to the countryside?
  3. Do you think governments do enough to protect rural areas and farmland?
  4. How is life in the countryside likely to change in the future?
